moody knows so much more about liam than he knows about him. it’s not that al is particularly good at disguising his thoughts. it’s that he’s so hyper focused it’s hard to ever catch a thought when he’s not thinking about the task at hand. the only thing liam really knows about alastor moody’s personal life is that he doesn’t have one.
liam’s favorite trick to play on alastor is spare the 99 to fool the one. it’s hilarious for him to see the trick just go right over the poor guy’s head because he’s so hyper focused on what he’s been told. he often picks on al to demonstrate a potential plan involving some trickery just because he’s such an easy participant to manipulate.
at one point there was a meeting in which liam was demonstrating how some sleight of hand concept would work in theory. all he was doing was just making a paper ball disappear with a quick hand motion and tossing it right over al’s head. but he’d told al to focus on the ball.
“come on mate, it’s not that hard just- focus on the ball.”
and over al’s head it went.
“guys, i don’t think he’s quite getting this.”
he didn’t. it took al at least ten go-abouts to even begin to figure out what was happening, even with all the giggling around him.
despite the contrary, liam’s pretty sure al doesn’t like him very much. which is fine by him, he’s just there to do the job, not be buddy-buddy with everyone. but he can’t help but be a little confused every time al shows up and picks him to co-pilot some mission or other.
surprisingly enough al and liam make fairly good drinking buddies. they’re always at the order hq late, al because he’s constantly paranoid and liam because he keeps weird hours anyway. they don’t talk about what they’re thinking of, the emotional baggage they both carry. they don’t talk much. in fact they hardly talk at all. which is what makes it perfect.
