The Alava-Bate Sanctuary
A very remote and relatively unexplored region of Central Vancouver Island. Few people even know this place exists. The hike in has been described as one of the ten most difficult bushwacks on the island and that’s saying something. I went on a week-long trip climbing trip here with the Alpine Club of Canada and we took the alternative option of flying in. Unfortunately at the end of the week, the weather turned foggy and we were temporarily trapped. This was taken at sunrise on the morning we managed to fly out.
