The release of this film marked the end of his Mutual Contact, one of the most iconic and beloved eras of Charlie’s career.
Many of the actors and actresses with whom he worked during the Mutual Contract became classics in Charlie’s early work, all of them combining together to create a distinct, charming visual style to these films. These performers include Edna Purviance, Eric Campbell, Albert Austin, and Henry Bergman just to name a few. Having each of them present in the films gave them a warm feeling unique to Charlie’s early days. They all had a wonderful chemistry that I believe played a large role in the success of these films.
Charlie is quoted as saying that this period was perhaps the happiest of his life, and I believe that fact is made evident in his work.
