Today’s character is Leon.
You know, when I did this the first time, I made a long post about Leon and his methods. Leon looks at the big picture. He looks at what can bring victory to the side he’s working for, even if it involves human rights violations. He basically sacrificed Kalekka–and its residents–in a false flag operation, in order to boost the morale of the country.Â
Similar things have been done countless times in the real world. They’ve all been defended at some point or another as something that was “necessary” in order to win a war. And who knows? Maybe the defenders are right. Maybe many more lives would have been lost, dozens of times over, if these strategies hadn’t been carried out.
But does that make them right?
I find Leon to be a fascinating character. He’s not “bad,” but he’s not really “good,” either. He’s logical and realistic. He clearly passed his ideals down to Albert, who employs equally ruthless tactics in Suikoden III.
I don’t know. I’m sure there’s extra-canonical material out there that would give me more to say about him, But as things go, I just think he’s got some kick-ass lines, even if I can’t remember any of them. Whatever.
