Rita in summer! 🍊 🍋 🍓 🫐 🍒
A little doodle of Teeko from Chirault, a webcomic which, incidentally, is now in the home stretch of a Kickstarter to produce a beautiful slipcover box to hold the full print run of the series AND print a lovely new combined edition of Volumes 1 and 2! What serendipitous timing!
Papercraft commission of Aki and Koharu from Love Bullet! I've really been enjoying this manga (and the backstory between these two was especially heartwrenching), and thus I was very excited to make this one.
Since hearts are such an important design motif in the manga, the client requested I use a bunch of heart patterns! I had great fun looking through all my papers for hearts. ❤️ I’m especially fond of the semitransparent heart paper in Koharu’s wings.
Black-and-white commission to be used as an author portrait! The reference photo featured an absolutely gorgeous smile, so I tried to do that justice here. ^_^
Papercraft commission of Frieren! I love this series, so I was extra excited to make this piece. ^_^
Since I had free choice of what spell to depict, I picked the Vollzanbel/black hole spell from the big magic fight in episode 25, because I thought it would look especially rad made out of shimmery holographic paper. Plus, I also got to make flying rocks! Bursts of fiery light! Lots of drama!! And, my favorite part - I got to go super, wildly detailed with Frieren's hair!

Whenever I mail out papercraft, I draw a little doodle on the outside of the envelope. I thought this envelope doodle of JC and WWX turned out extra cute, so I decided to color it! Yunmeng Shuangjie!!
A little doodle of Brimhat AU Coco, with some pops of color via Posca pen and some gold ink!
Assorted Alien Stage mini papercrafts! I found the English artbook in the bookstore the other day and I WANT IT but I gotta refrain for now... ;o; At least I've got cute minis to tide me over!
Letters never sent.
An ink/digital tone commission of the client's character Niruphma during an emotional moment! I've gotten to draw Niru several times before, and he's always a delight. I love his design! I love getting to draw big, intense emotions! I love sequential illustrations! This was so fun!!
Another doodle with washi tape accents!
Ink/digital color commission of the client's character, a stylish magic user! I had great fun adding detail to his hair while inking, and while coloring I especially enjoyed brushing in his dramatic red eye makeup. :D
Papercraft commission of the clients' characters Swan and Mikael! Their campaign is dark and romantic (with some nods to Swan Lake AND a vampiric twist, to boot!), so I really wanted the mood of this piece to be very intense to match that, and to have a kind of Gothic flair. 🥰 There were a lot of lavish little details - the elaborate mirror behind Swan and Mikael is actually mirror paper irl, for example, with multiple layers to the silver frame, and Swan's gown is a patterned vellum paper (my longtime enemy) layered over a shimmery pale pink.
I’d love to try out papercraft! Do you have recommendations on the best places to find paper or what type of paper is fun to work with? I have no idea where to start!
Hello, dearest Anon! How wonderful that you're leaping into papercraft! :D
I've answered a similar question in a little more detail here (short version: I check fine art supply stores, and my favorite go-to shops are Paper Source in the US and The Paper Place in Toronto!). I also chat about the supplies I use in my "art talk" tag.
As for types of paper to work with, everyone has different preferences - what I enjoy best and find easiest to work with (I'm particularly fond of somewhat thin, handmade decorative papers, like Japanese chiyogami paper) may not be the best fit for your own work. So I'd recommend getting a bunch of different paper samples of various materials, origins, and styles, and then just playing around with them until you find one (or several!) that you vibe with. From there, you can track down similar papers and start building up your paper stash!
Good luck, dearest Anon! I hope you'll have a great time exploring the wonderful medium of papercraft! 🌸
Anna gave me a bunch of washi tapes and I've been having fun incorporating them into sketchbook doodles 💕
Agott with the owlcat light spell! It's been so nice to watch her smile more as the series goes on... 🥹
Papercraft commission of the client's player character Sabriel in Dragon Age: The Veilguard! Her magic is focused on necrotic energy and spirit-channeling, while her personality is bubbly and optimistic. I thought that was a fun contrast, and so tried to give her a cheerful, whimsical sort of pose as she hangs out with the wisps! :D
