he knows what the words mean before he’s had the chance to formulate a question, but the weight of them makes it difficult to accept. his arms cannot hold such a burden without forewarning, and his mind had not been prepared for such brash disappointment. 

“ i’m to believe that is possible.” 

there is nothing venomous about it. it sounds more self-loathing than abrasive, and his stance speaks to his confusion. to believe it to be true, to come forth with hands bared, is a feat he has not yet mastered. acceptance is certainly not in his nature in any capacity. 

“ what has happened then? how - how did that come to be?” what he means is where has it gone?
