Headcanon: Xiao can’t handle alcohol at all!
Author's Note: Basically a short one shot I wrote while thinking of Xiao. The Xiao brain rot is real, cant get him out of my head after pulling for him. So there you have it, Xiao x reader fluff.
Warnings: Alcohol drinking, sfw other than that.
You’d think that the vigilant Yaksha after aeons of roaming the grounds of Liyue, would have some experience regarding drinking alcohol, but truth is he doesn’t. Although the famous Osmanthus wine was a beloved delicacy of Morax, he didn’t let himself indulge at all. There is a chance Xiao had tasted alcohol but it was no more than a sip and he’d never dare try afterwards. Humans and their inexplicable vices, he’d mutter to himself after stumbling across a drunken passerby.
So you can only imagine what his face would look like when you invited him over for drinks at the Wangshu Inn. Perhaps you wanted to celebrate a commission going well or an extra large bounty. Therefore you decided to meet the adeptus at the top floor with a bottle of Osmanthus Wine.
Although he acknowledged your achievements, he wouldn’t drink a single sip from his cup. Noticing that you asked him if he’d drink, to which he replied with a simple shake of his head. Finding it entertaining, you’d start pestering him about it.
I didn’t think there was something adepti cant handle. To think that there is something the vigilant Yaksha can’t do.
The more you teased him, the more you can see frowning and muttering indistinct words under his breath. Finally, he grabbed the cup and before he pressed it on his lips he scolded you.
You mortals have no respect for the adepti. And with that he bottomed it up.
At first Xiao didn’t really react, disappointing you considering you thought you’d found a weakness of his after all this time. And so, you started pouring more wine into his cup. And because he didn’t want to tarnish the reputation of the adepti he kept drinking. He’d drink, you’d refill. He’d drink again and then you’d refill again. All the way until the bottle was empty and you had barely drunk one cup of wine or your own. That was when you actually turned around and looked at him. And oh boy, were you surprised to see what he looked like.
His face was beet red as he had buried his cheeks inside his palms. His beautiful amber eyes were glimmering more than usual and you could hear him exhaling a bit louder than usual.
With hesitation, you moved your hands towards his face, pushing a strand of hair to the side as you cupped his hands with yours.
Xiao are you… drunk? You asked him carefully while staring into his eyes. The way he looked was beyond endearing to you and at that point you were barely keeping yourself from bursting into laughter, something he well noticed. Retracting his hands from his face, he grabbed you by your wrists as he pushed you onto the ground next to him, pinning them above your head while towering you.
He looked angry but at the same time, so vulnerable and flustered. The smile you were entertaining earlier, turned into that of adoration as you looked up at the adeptus. He looks so cute like that, you thought to yourself.
Xiao opened his mouth in an attempt to speak but he was finding himself at a loss of words, especially after he noticed the compromising position the two of you were in. If there was a way for his face to turn even redder then… Although he was mad that you were obviously mocking him, he couldn’t stay mad for long while looking at you underneath him. You didn’t even fight back, you stayed put while looking up at him like that. No one has ever looked at him that way and that’s why sometimes, he would indulge himself in thinking that perhaps you could be the one who’d stay by his side no matter what, who’d continue giving him smiles and looks like this so generously every single day. The adeptus was mesmerized by you and although he’d never admit it, he secretly hoped you knew.
Don’t… don’t talk about this with anyone. He shook his head away from your gaze in an attempt to conceal his blushing. That only made you smile even wider. The words he wanted to say to you, you could tell. Behind his quiet and cold exterior you knew that he shared the same feelings you did for him. Drinking all of this alcohol for you when he couldn’t even stomach it, archons, could this man be even more adorable? No he couldn’t.
I wouldn’t dream of doing so.
