i wanted to love this one, i really did... almost every other review i read for this book talked about how it changed their life, about how this is a new favourite. and for the first half—up until regan and aldo are having their six conversations—i was completely on board. i was fully expecting this book to be an easy four star read.

it's only when i got to the second half of the book did i realise how wrong i was...

everything changes so quickly—the prose becomes extremely purple and verbose and dense. every plot point is reduced to sex. they fuck when they're bored and they fuck when they're horny, when they're fighting and apologising and when they're sad.

the sentences become choppy and repetitive to show regan's manic state—and it's fine!! it works out well for like two or three pages but then it genuinely becomes so difficult to focus on and to enjoy.

all in all, i can tell this book was a labour of love, it just... didn't come across as well as the author intended. i wish it would have ended with the six conversations, i would have enjoyed it so much more that way :(
