After half a year I’m back on my SSO horses-project! Why did it take so long, you say? I really didn’t want to draw dragon horses 😂

From the letters of an early European settler thought to concern the Aldrach and Faramawr, along with other Jorvegian myths sent to relatives in Norway. Translated to modern English from Norwegian. May 21st, 1288 Dearest family- I hope this letter finds you well. I am pleased to inform you that I shall be returning soon, for this place is strange and inhospitable to the God fearing. It is not uncommon to see a member of the reclusive Kallter, who I have spoken of at length in previous letters* outside of their valley at this time of the year, rather, it is quite the opposite. Trading parties frequently come down from the mountains with their horses to do business with villagers of Valedale. However, it is rare to see a Kallter in the company of a horse that wasn't one of their short and sturdy dray beasts, but rather, a large destrier. Oh, but one must use caution gazing at one of these magnificent beasts, as a frightful image may take the place of the fine mount for a moment- an image of a serpent of Satan himself. I have seen two such creatures, one as bright as the forgefires of the Jarl, the other, as green as the leaves of the forests. When I approached the Kallter rider about their beasts, they would only look at me with a most displeased countenance, while the stallion they rode almost seemed to understand the words I spoke, pinning their ears and acting as if to savage me. Needless to say, I retreated swiftly. Dearest family, I thought there was opportunity here, on this strange island, but I have seen ghosts of soldiers long past into history in freezing valleys, serpents-made-horses, and creatures of shadow with glowing eyes that will not speak. I fully intend to return home at the nearest opportunity. I know not how those who remain can bear to know what lurks in the shadows and corners. I cannot wait to see you all soon. August Pt2 - Monthly Drawing Challenge

The final piece for August’s challenge! I was so excited to hear we were getting dragon horses in game and while the green one has won my heart over the red I know which one best relates to Az. The in-game dragon’s name is even a reference to her, my hot-headed Flameflower.

Of course I took some liberties in redesigning it slightly (and no way was I gonna do all those scales right now.) I do like to imagine that Az figures out a way to extend her lifespan and lives for centuries, possibly even millennia on. This piece comes from that idea where in the far flung future Az has discovered where the dragons fled to. She cares and trains them but in the process managed to lose one of her arms. Of course, still being good friends with Ydris means she can replace it with a crystal one!
