Dancing with the Stars Rewatch: Season 1, The Finale

So we are at the finale. And I’m excited to watch one dance in particular. You all probably know what it is. But if you don’t you have to wait. Each couple is doing two dances again, including the first ever freestyle round. So without further ado, let’s get this thing started.

Favorite Dance Round

John and Charlotte- Quickstep (Judges’ Scores=27, My Score=9)- Aww. Patrick Swayze. I’m sad now. RIP. This dance was good. But I wasn’t expecting much different. They definitely improved. The footwork was really good. There were some moments that were slightly problematic. But it wasn’t a huge issue like it was last the last time.

Kelly and Alec- Samba (Judges’ Scores=25, My Score=9)- It was much better the second time around (wtf CAI). She was way more refined in all aspects of the dance.And she was way more confident. I just wanted her timing to be a tad better. Otherwise, I loved it.

Freestyle Round

John and Charlotte- Judges’ Score=27, My Score=9- It was really fun and entertaining. I’ll say that. Kinda wild. John kinda lost it here and there. The choreography wasn’t as good as I would have liked it to be. Other than that, I liked it.

Kelly and Alec- Judges’ Scores=30, My Score=10- Was this dance technically perfect? No. But to me, it was the dance of the season. It was unexpected. They took huge risks and it paid off. This freestyle set the precedent for freestyles to come. In fact, it is clear as day that Cheryl was inspired by the way that Alec approached this freestyle. Without this dance, the freestyle round wouldn’t be what it was for up until season 16 (it has lost some of its magic over the years due to the supersizing of all of the routines and the theme weeks). And Kelly killed it regardless. Like it was a legitimately great dance.

My Rankings and Scores Out of 60:

1. Kelly and Alec- 57 (27 for samba, 30 for freestyle) 2. John and Charlotte- 54 (27 for quickstep and freestyle)

So as we all know, Kelly won! And John was a crybaby about it and couldn’t handle the fact that he lost to the underdog who actually improved week to week and didn’t rely on gimmicks and get mad at the judges for scoring them properly and who actually had memorable and good performances (yes that was shade intended for one specific individual who somehow managed to not lose from a recent season). That is why I don’t like John and it is also why I will not be watching the dance-off, because it was silly. And I will never refer to him as the season 1 champion, just like the show doesn’t.

Winner Rankings

#18 Kelly and Alec- Season 1

There was actually nothing bad about this win. In fact, Kelly was a great person to be the very first champion of DWTS. She started out very bad and timid and improved all the way throughout the competition. And her freestyle was the peak of that climb for her (as it should be). The only reason why she’s not higher is because of how good the other winners above her were. But this was the ultimate underdog story.
