He can talk a lot, especially when it comes to subjects he’s passionate about (comics, obviously), but can be known to retreat into himself when he’s feeling anxious, suddenly a mystery to everyone around. He’s extremely big on following rules, doing everything to the letter, he’s a difficult person to lead astray. A fantastic listener, he will always try to be there for a friend in their moments of need, although he can be easily distracted. He loves passionately, probably a little too passionately for some, but that’s how he’s been since he was a small child. Often feeling out of place in the world he can be down on a lot of things, if something goes wrong, he’s not the best person to give you a pep talk.

Born and raised as an only child in Merrock, Xander’s upbringing was pretty uneventful and quiet for the most part. He enjoyed his childhood and had what most would consider an easy time of it. At ten, however, he was diagnosed with ASD, level 1. It didn’t change much, aside from answering questions they all had about some of his behaviour, but it made him suddenly realise that he was classed as different to a lot of people. His parents continued to tell him that he wasn’t, yet Xander found himself super aware of it, which sometimes made things worse.

Once things were a little more under control in his tween years, he developed a passion for drawing, distracting himself from the anxiety in the back of his mind by creating a gaggle of crazy characters —- characters that are still with him to this day. Most of his school years were spent this way, along with hanging around by the coast, finding himself fascinated by the boats and the lives of those who lived there. He made it a goal to eventually do the same, to buy a boat and live on it, even though he knew it was slightly ridiculous.

His next port of call was the University of Florida to undertake in Film and Media Studies. That was where his obsession with movies really started. The move was something he found extremely difficult, though, and shortly after starting college he ended up attending CBT sessions and having several visits with a doctor again. The sudden change had caused everything to spiral and the anxiety he’d been attempting to ignore for years was suddenly at the forefront. It didn’t matter how well he was actually doing in college, those feelings of complete and utter hopelessness could take over entirely.

During that period of his life, he really struggled to make friends, to find any true connections with anybody. It wasn’t until he was done with college again and trying to find his way in the world that things changed.

With thanks to his father, who had recently moved away following an amicable divorce from his mother, his way forward became apparent. He got a job at the local comic book shop and he gradually worked his way up, eventually taking over ownership when an opportunity became available. He had a lot of help from his family back then and now has a lot of help from fellow employees with the general running of the place, but its given him meaning in his life at long last. His film studies are on the back burner, although he does spend a lot of time bugging people with facts and figures and constantly corrects them over every little thing. It’s been suggested that maybe he start a podcast sometime, but he’s still thinking it over, knowing it would probably be too much for him if he even attempted it.

Around the time he got the job at Page Turners, he also got a place out on Lupine Lane, settling at the trailer park there. Even now there’s a part of him that wants to keep to himself, but living there he’s very much been forced to come out of his shell, which has only ever done him good in the long run.
