He'd come over clean today, all crisp green shirt and the smart cut of his Mandarin jacket. Granted, Da Sun hadn't asked anything of him earlier except to translate for him as they discussed expanding the Tojo's Clan's operations with its chairman.

Somehow, an afternoon of interpretation was more taxing than having to fight. But his father had clapped him on the shoulder, smiled, and said he did good...

If he weren't standing in Shiona's home right now, he'd light a cigarette.

"It came up at that business meeting today," he explains, "happiness, success. 'Our work will ensure lasting prosperity'...

"I started wondering if it was possible to be happy long enough for it to be 'lasting'."

HI HELLO, this is a random question but what does Daigo's living space looks like? Does he prefer a particular style of furniture? Particular colors? Is his home more maximalist and full of knick knacks or is it minimalist and relatively uncluttered?

Hello, friend ! I’ve touched on this briefly before in the form of a headcanon post talking about living with Daigo, but I happy to elaborate more on the physical characteristics of the spaces he occupies ! Discussing Daigo’s living space depends on the point of his life that you’re referring to. Kiwami 2 / punk / post - jail Daigo had next to no fondness for the cheap apartment he rented to get by. His quarters were primarily for recovering in after drinking himself sick or patching up wounds. He didn’t spend a lot of time there ; to call that home a glorified closet or self - made medical clinic wouldn’t be far - fetched. As a result, it was always a mess. His bed was a mattress on the floor, he threw clothes over doors, and any pieces of furniture he possessed were threadbare / lightly damaged leftovers that he got secondhand. The only well - stocked areas of the place were the cabinet he kept medical supplies in and the counter where his private stash of alcohol lived. There weren’t many personal effects, either  ―  the most Daigo - centric items were his collection of puffer and leather coats ; boots ; chains ; and other wardrobe odds and ends. After Daigo became the Sixth Chairman and was encouraged to keep more lavish accommodations, he then started to pay attention to interior decorating. Daigo favored a clean home with an open floor plan. He had a place for everything. Dark woods and simple solid gray or white walls. Soft lighting, a good deal of ‘ smart ’ technology, and rooms set aside : always his bedroom, an office space ( later where he keeps Clan mementos post - dissolution ), and a home gym. His obvious indulgence was plush furniture, comfortable pillows, and large blankets.  Daigo’s living space in his later life was largely decorated with photographs. There were plenty of people that he had lost along the way that he didn’t want to forget, so he started to arrange images of the better days throughout his home. Most of them he has difficulty discussing with others, but they mean quite a bit to him personally.  The only real messes that Daigo allowed for in his private sanctum were those that came from something creative. Daigo needed little activities to keep his hands and mind busy ; he often did his best thinking while working on wooden puzzles, building LEGO sets, or otherwise engaging in some small engineering - based endeavor. So, while Daigo’s home was never particularly cluttered or full, it did have a lot of life to it. Simply put, it felt lived in. The one category of décor that Daigo was adamantly opposed to was plant life. He never did have a ‘ green thumb ’ and dropped leaves / dying greenery in places he visited made him feel a bit of disgust.   Hopefully, this answers your questions ! Thank you for sending them !

Epithets: Alexeatis

Alexeatis: Averter of Evil, mentioned in a 5th c. inscription to Enodia Alexeatis in the city of Larisa.

The historical appearances of Enodia are relatively few, and where She is known, She often appears as an epithet of Hekate or, sometimes, Artemis.  Enodia, or Ennodia, is a Thessalian Goddess, associated with roads and entrances. She is a Goddess of the Underworld, attended by dogs and associated with keys. It isn’t hard to understand why She was taken to be a form of Hekate. In Thrace, She was also Kourotrophos, associated with children. Two inscriptions in Larissa petition her in this mode. And, of course, it is impossible to say if Enodia came to carry these Hekatean traits because She already shared them with Hekate, or if Hekate absorbed Enodia and adopted the Thessalian Goddess’ characteristics. The connection between the two dates back to at least the 4th c. BCE, when the Hippocratic Corpus associated night-time ghosts with Hekate-Enodia.

We know that by Roman times there were rites dedicated to Enodia, perhaps occurring at triodoi  (three-way crossroads) or else at gates and doors. If so, this strengthens the association with Hekate.

But there also exists, on one lead tablet, a wish for victory written towards the Enodioi, suggesting a group of Gods, rather than a singular Goddess of the Road. We know too little about Enodia to say much.

All of which is to say, Alexeatis, the Averter, is an epithet that was found with the name Enodia. Indeed, the only surviving example of it is that of Enodia Alexeatis. Yet, Hekate too has epithets that serve an apotropaic character:

Purists might want to shy away from using Alexeatis with Hekate, particularly when so many other options exist. But perhaps connecting with Enodia Alexeatis, even if She is some part of the character of Hekate, could prove fruitful. Yet I see no problem with calling Hekate Alexeatis, in light of Her protective nature.

After the breakup, Charles is miserable. He tells himself he isn't, of course, and that these "feelings" will come to pass as they always do, but they linger. It's bizarre to him thinking of Shiona out of nowhere-- when he's driving alone (she isn't in the passenger seat), when he's having a suit tailored (what would she say about this fabric pattern?), when he's sat in a new restaurant (that folding screen would look nice in her home), when he's straightening his sheets before bed (she thought it was cute of him that he was so neat and tidy about it, especially considering they'd get under the blankets anyway). Shiona would have never survived in the world of the Jade Dragons, not with how her heart isn't built to tolerate what Charles does. The breakup should have been positive, and yet in his mind she remains.

Blood Boots suggests that he ought to get rid of everything that connected them. Together, they collect everything Charles kept from the time he and Shiona spent in Japan:

a receipt with a scribble she made of him, to pay him back for a portrait he'd drawn of her on another receipt a few days prior

a Rallidae duck paperweight that reminded her of him, kept on his work desk

a plastic umbrella she bought for him at the Poppo after catching him in the rain without one

a photograph Charles took of the two of them at Tokyo Tower, using a digital camera he stole from his mother

Most of it is easy to burn. At least it should be. But Blood Boots catches the way Charles hesitates just standing over the metal canister with gasoline in hand, and then sets a hand on his shoulder before Charles soaks anything in the liquid.

"Why don't I keep those for you, Guowei?" "...yeah. Yeah, okay."

hc + 🎥 for a film/tv-themed headcanon

Most of Charles' taste in film and television was moulded by other people. He likes his father's dramas (and the romantic comedies he'll secretly watch on the side, claiming the human aspect is entertaining), his mother's four-hour mysteries, and the Wang Brothers' martial arts action bonanzas. That said, though, he's capable of enjoying just about anything that can capture his interest easily, which means that stories about conspiracy or complex relationships or even the dilemma of "an ogre saving a princess from a tower and falling in love with her" can keep him entertained for hours on end.

Charles' taste in fiction isn't mature by any means, but considering he didn't consume a lot of it growing up, there's still a kind of child-like wonder to him each time he's able to just sit and watch something. He has no taste. He's not picky. If it leaves you at the edge of your seat, curious about what happens next and wanting for more, he gets sucked into the story and the drama and complains if that story is abruptly cut short. There's an almost uncharacteristic purity to him whenever he gets to sit down and just watch something, but considering his father hates this aspect of him, he'd much prefer it if nobody knew.

Asahi’s hands shoot over his eyes with an agonized shout, crying out as the oil spat out from the pan at them. Quickly receding, he bumps into what is fortunately an empty counter and quickly begins feeling around until he feels the cool metal of the sink faucet.

He knew in his gut the oil was too hot and he wasn’t sure if the battered chicken was too wet, but he just chalked it up to having not made karaage in a while.

He’s so wrapped up in washing his eyes out he doesn’t even hear Shiona return with until she makes her way into the room and speaks.

Mami:

➤ Mami always adored basketball. All because of the manga she read. While she knew she joined the team late and was aware how terrible her skills would be, she still wanted to join to show her interest in such things, only to be looked down on about her skills. It's already bad enough that she is getting bullied by her team, but to be judged by them with her skills as a basketball player made her doubt herself a little too much. Even with Yagami's reassuring words, she still has her doubts from time to time. Not as bad as it used to be.

➤ I love to think she polished her skills outside the team, playing on her own when no one is looking. There would be a few hours out of her day that she would go off and try to play. Just so she doesn't fall into being judged for her skills. Even if she did become on good terms with her team members, she still wanted to do this.

➤ I am taking what Yagami had said in that scene where Matsui apologized and applying full force, even after the game. The thing is, I am conflicted how on to write this, which I might push this conflict into this thought. Mami is conflicted with her feelings. On one hand, she shouldn't forgive Matsui and his friends for what they have done. She knew that their bullying left her with more doubts about herself. At the same time, they did apologized or I'm assuming everyone else apologized off-screen since we only saw Matsui apologized on-screen. And with them stepping in to stop another kid being bullied in the end, yeah, it is conflicting for Mami. I wouldn't say she is entirely on good terms with Matsui and his friends. Let alone entirely forgiven them for what has happened. Given her nature, I am sure she did manage to forgive them. Not 100% though. She only did so because they apologized and actually carried out with their changed behavior. Even then, she wants nothing to do with them. Despite their scene together at the end, I still believe she would rather not deal with them.

➤ I'm putting a bit of a twist to Mami. Much like how she took interest in basketball because of a manga she loved, she took interest in being a detective because of Yagami. He was - and probably still is, given he might visit the school due to his status to the clubs - there for her. He had given her reassuring words and helped her out in times of need when no one else did. I am still in debate if I wanted to make her quit the basketball team because she wants nothing to do with the team any longer and joined the MRC or continued to show up on the team because she's not going to back down from her interest.

Either way, I would say she is best friends with Amasawa. I like to think Amasawa heard about what's going on and saw how much Yagami helped Mami. So Amasawa would often visited Mami and befriended her. Their friendship blossomed to where they would be at each other's houses from time to time. Sleep-overs, studies together, etc. As far as we know, Amasawa doesn't have a best friend. As much as she could claim her brother as a best friend or Yagami, she would rather have a friend outside her family and advisor. Correction, the two has another best friend and that's Kotoko. The trio do understand each other's situations to an extent and all were helped by Yagami. With that common grounds, the trio became close friends.

➤ Mami actually lives with her father, but he isn't aware that she was being bullied. She didn't want to add more stress with him. He's a single father, raising up his only daughter. A hard-working one too. So, he's constantly at work, trying to provide for the two.

➤ Before everything that happened with Sawa, I would like to say Mami used to be close with her. Mainly because she had no one else to turn to. Plus, Sawa understands completely how Mami feels and her situations. After all, Sawa did witness this before. After hearing Sawa's death, Mami felt hollow. She couldn't process what happen. While she didn't show it on-screen exactly, she grieved for her teacher. She can't walk in and be delighted to see her teacher any longer.

Amasawa:

➤ Amasawa always held interest in anything mystery. It's why she joined the MRC. One of the things that driven her to do so is Sherlock. She enjoyed reading the book as well as anything to do with the character. So, yes, she would be often seen watching stuff or reading about Sherlock. Even going as far as reading anything mystery-related. And with Yagami as her advisor and an actual detective, she set her eyes on being a detective herself. If he's not around, she could be seen at Yokohama 99 with both Sugiura and Tsukumo. She may be a bit iffy on those two, but she will eventually warms up to them, especially Tsukumo. But imagine if he is the reason why she got into mangas. Between that and how Kento is, yeah, Tsukumo is getting the Amasawa siblings in the office all over him. Amasawa being the manga-reader / anime-watcher and Kento being the one to talk about games to Tsukumo.

➤ While not many do enjoy her presence, given she is always sticking her nose into other people's business, she is the detective of the school. Unofficial that is. While, yes, the school - or rather the students - can hire an actual detective, sometimes it's more fun to hire a potential detective, especially aiding in her skills as one. If it's an actual case that requires an actual detective, they will gladly do so. It comes in handy to have Yagami walking around the campus because he is in several clubs as well as having Amasawa be there to call him up. Not that anyone don't trust Yokohama 99. In fact, Amasawa will say call Y99 than call Yagami. If it is absolutely necessary, yes, she'll call him up.

➤ Amasawa actually wanted to join a sport team at one point but realized she's not the greatest at any sports. Gym was not her greatest class.

➤ I love to assume Amasawa knows who Ichiban is. Her being nosey would result in crossing paths with him at one point. For now, they only know who each other but nothing more. No friendship has blossomed. Not yet. I would love to imagine her meeting Adachi and having another detective buddy, despite him being old and being a former detective.

➤ No, I will not be taking any criticism, but Tesso will absolutely adore Amasawa. Anyone who Yagami takes under his wing is someone that Tesso gotta meet. Plus, both Tesso and Amasawa live in the same city and based off of my HC I mentioned earlier with Y99, there's no doubt she would cross paths with him. She may not be aware what he does but she knows something is off about him. She keeps being nosey yet getting no answers to her questions. Even if Amasawa would understand and not judge him based off of his position, he would rather spare her from such information.

➤ I might end up discussing this connection out with a friend since I asked her to pick up Okitegawa for me, but it is possible the two will end up becoming friends. I was telling my friend that there's no doubt that they would cross paths and befriend each other, even if Amasawa is Amasawa. The fact that Yagami is the advisor to both clubs as well as the final chapters of the school investigation substories. Yeah, they gotta be friends somehow, even if they don't always see eye to eye. More information will come soon once the discussion set sail.
