Tess had spent half her morning arguing with an office clerk over the papers she'd presented upon buying the house she was currently living in. Of course, the papers had been bogus, but she'd compelled the clerk to oversee that, only to now find out that the man had lost them, which meant she had had to do everything all over again.

Once that was settled, she headed home, trying to overcome the bad mood that the entire thing had cast on her. She was walking at a rather quick pace on the sidewalk, so she was surprised when she felt someone poke her shoulder. She stopped and turned to face the other person. "Yes?"
