#41: “Flex (Ooh Ooh Ooh) (Alexia/Neptune hip-hop), Top 16

I honestly don’t know why this routine works. It usually wouldn’t. It has a huge prop that they never get away from, the concept is too bizarre to make that much sense, and these two are pretty mismatched on paper. Yet...this is a good routine. Huh. 

I guess it’s because Neptune and Alexia managed to have so much chemistry despite me swearing that they wouldn’t. I don’t even know why I thought that. They were even dressed in opposite colors, which doesn’t always work, but it didn’t distract me once. Like I said before, my only problem with this is that I wish they’d moved away from the wall at least once and had a big dance break, but there was still enough dancing to satisfy me. I’ve also been playing a lot of Batman lately, so this also reminds me of Joker/Harley Quinn, only not as insane for obvious reasons. 

I guess I enjoy this because I know that I usually wouldn’t, and I’m pleasantly surprised every time I watch it and realize that yes, I actually do like this routine. There are parts that Alexia could have been tighter in, but overall, this is a good routine.

Oh wait, I just fact checked myself (I'm the anon talking about Alexia). It was on Travis's top 20 blog and he said there were a lot of missed lifts that day. Apparently the catch went wrong and Alexia caught Jim on the nose with her elbow.

Good thing she didn’t break it. But she’s brave for agreeing to be launched halfway across the stage in any case. I’m smaller than her and I probably would have been like “lol no”.

This is nothing against Alexia (love her), but honey child can't catch a break in group routines. She dropped the cane in "Body Language", broke off from the group circle early in "Baila como yo" and apparently (in dress rehearsal) she was dropped in "Stabat Mater." She also had a messy partner work thing with Ariana in "Circus Fish," but we don't talk about that.

Now that I’m done doing my second write up of Circus Fish, I’d like to go back to pretending it never happened. @_@ I just feel too much secondhand embarrassment. 

She was dropped in Stabat Mater??? When they flung her across the stage? How did she not break her neck?
