Brilliant WBC lightweight champion Alexis Arguello – weighing his heaviest ever at just over 10st – dramatically blasted out New York’s tough Kevin Rooney in two rounds #OnThisDay in Atlantic City to set up a WBA light-welterweight challenge against Aaron Pryor. Arguello nailed Rooney with a beautifully placed crunching right to the jaw and Rooney slumped to the canvas. He never looked like beating referee Larry Hazard’s count. Rooney – Mike Tyson’s future trainer – had only lost to Davey Moore and that was at welterweight on a disputed seventh-round stoppage. Pryor, at ringside, said: “I learned one thing – that Arguello can punch at the heavier weight.” #boxing #BoxingNews #BoxingHistory #AlexisArguello #ElFlacoExplosivo (at Bally's Atlantic City)
