Part 2/2
Apple = Coryo, tree = Crassus?
The Roman salute and militaristic poses are so fitting, it's insane—
Part 1/2
It’s “official.” Coriolanus has his own choreography, courtesy of author Soman Chainani:
CHAOTIC + GLAM + URBAN
Skeletons = starvation during the Dark Days?
When you're a chill guy so you kill your gf because you're scared she knows you killed your peacekeeper friend
Ew, a possessive Snow.
The character analysis I've been subjected to at school is definitely getting at me. I should be studying but I need to get this out of my drafts or I'll combust. Coriolanus only brought 3 items from his personal box on the way to meet Lucy Gray. "3 photos of family" "circle of his mothers powder" "his fathers compass" Only his father's compass survived. Theres a scene where he throws away the rest without any doubts or worries. Its a turning point of his character and brilliant foreshadowing of his future actions.
He ends up following his fathers footsteps to become a respected, cold (psychopathic if u will) and dedicated hero of the Capitol. He is following his fathers 'moral compass'. Get it? Crassus Snow is always described as being distant and somewhat cold (and a mystery) to Coriolanus. Coryo also looks a lot like his father? He probably becomes what his father would have become if he wasn't shot by the rebels.
By throwing away pictures of his family (probably his mother, Tigris and the grandmaam) it foreshadows his future actions. How he little he cares for his family. In the original Hunger Games trilogy, Tigris is cast out from his life. She literally went through so much to raise him basically on her own and he treats her like that?
His mother's compact, the rose powder, stood for everything he was at the start of the book. The kind person who Lucy Gray fell in love with. Who did everything in his power to help her win the games. The Coryo who would do anything to protect his family. Who tries to survive and live up to his family's name and legacy. A child who was constantly used for the benefit Capitol by the adults. Who was still unsure about the Capitols morals.
By throwing the powder away, he loses his (only) source of comfort and his last tie to being a 'child'. His innocence and his last connection to his 'soft-hearted' mother, whom he deemed too weak for this world, is severed through it. He basically loses all compassion and goes on to live with the Plinths. Whose son he literally betrayed and indirectly murdered without much shame or guilt. (not as much as he should have at least) Somewhere down the line he betrays Tigris too. Which brings back my point about him throwing the photos away. And not to mention how he's portrayed in the original trilogy.. (I haven't read the sunrise on the reaping yet)
Coriolanus Snow chooses to become who he is. He laid his own stepping stones to his future road of cold, dictatorship. He choose to follow his father's path of power and influence. He choose the Capitols morals and view over his family and everything else. He does that all on his own accord and doesn't look back. He doesn't have an indecisive thinking session where he feels bad about throwing them away. He doesn't think about sending the photos to repair or buying more rose powder from the black market or smth. He just chucks it away without any dilemma.
