Clay Riddell, who’s in denial about the fact that he’s been thinking non-stop about how he wants to kiss Tom since they blew up the flock at the Gaiten Academy: Why? I can still find a woman my age who will want a nice end of the world romance.

not to spoil the ending, but i relate hard to alice maxwell for rewriting the ending of her story with billy bc the way it really happened was depressing.

Sleepover HC list

w/ Jake Chambers, Jordon (Cell), Mark Petrie, & Jack Sawyer

Jordon and Jake are supposed to be running the mile but instead they’re just walking around the track because they’re super lazy. Jordon is discussing the cute girl who he knows has a crush on Jake!! 

Jake, as always, acts pretty disinterested which frustrates poor Jordon (who is only a little jealous because the girl he likes is a senior who will never like him back). 

Jake shyly (and out of character) explains that he likes someone else anyways. Jordon pounces on this and immediately asks who it is. He insists that Jake can get any girl he wanted in the school.

“Well, it’s not a girl....” Jake admits. 

Jordon, blissfully unaware that this is a tender moment, bursts: “You could get any guy you wanted too!” 

Jake is touched by his friends’ support and goes to tell him so but Jordon is like “Dude, we both have two dads, remember? How could I be homophobic?” 

Back to the task at hand, Jake doesn’t want to tell who his crush is right away so Jordon gets the idea of a group sleepover with their little gang. Where Jake can talk about him later. 

SO after school, Jake, Jordon, Mark, and Jack all get together at Jordon’s house for a sleepover. Tom & Clay have promised to stay out of their son’s hair!!!

While packing his things together, Mark decides to bring ‘Dracula’ for a fun movie night which they pop in Jordon’s DVD player as soon as they all get comfortable. 

Jack insists that they do a ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ tournament to determine who gets to sleep in Jordon’s bed. They all get way too into the competition but Jack ends up beating Jordon in the last round.

Jordon has to sleep on the floor at his own sleepover. 

For the first bit of the movie, they all just sit around talking about school, homework and all that jazz while looking through Jordon’s graphic novel collection. (Mark is secretly still starstruck that Jordon’s dad writes/draws horror/fantasy). 

They talk about what movie monster they would all be....

Jordon does NOT want to be a zombie, ok? He’s just interested in them!! 

Mark surprises them all by saying he wants to be the freaking Creature from the Black Lagoon because they all thought he loved Dracula. 

Mark’s like: “Nah, I’m scared as hell of Dracula!!!” (They all just ignore the fact that his blanket literally has Dracula on it...) 

Jake brings the conversation around to this guy he likes because he would secretly do anything to talk about him!!

Jack hi-jacks the conversation to talk about the fact that Richard Sloat definitely likes him but he is so not gay!! 

Jake is like “Yeah, sure....anyway--I like Benny Slightman!” (Benny is a year older than them so he’s 15). 

Jack, the little jerk, is like “I knew you were gay!” 

Jake punches him hard in the shoulder and tells him to shut the fuck up and let him talk. 

Jake proceeds to go off on a tangent about Benny for like twenty minutes of the movie. 

Mark is super interested but also is still trying to watch the movie so he keeps getting distracted. But he also shares that he thinks this boy, Danny Glick, might like him but he doesn’t know how to feel about it cause as far as he knows, he is straight. 

Jack hi-jacks the conversation again, talking about Richard again, and how much he does not like him. 

After the movie ends, Jordon is like “Ok guys please go to sleep cause I have soccer practice tomorrow and I need rest.” (The senior girl, Alice Maxwell, plays soccer so he obviously had to play too). 

Mark and Jack keep everyone awake with their bickering. Jack teases Mark about the fact that he brought his werewolf doll. 

Mark insists that it’s an action figure and tells him to shut the fuck up. 

Jake and Jordon examine the figure and determine that it’s a doll after all.

/!\Spoiler for Cell by Stephen King /!\

Cell where Alice lives because she deserved better. She still gets the brick thrown at her, but since the group is terrified of the two murderers coming back, they don’t take the time to bury her. They simply cover her in a sheet and says a few words before fleeing, heartbroken.

A passing group sees her body and hears her say a few confused words. There’s a Doctor in the group who carries a lot of supplies, and with good care (and a big miracle), saves her.

She’s blind in one eye, and in the begining her speech is slurred and she has a lot of trouble with her mobility and her balance. There’s also a scar taking up most of her face and head. The Doctor and the other people in the group keep their eyes on her and help her as she relearns and heals. She never fully recover and has worse days from time to time, but she’s alive.

One day, her group (on their way to Kashwak) gets attacked by thieves and most are killed until they see her, one of the untouchable, and run away. Only Alice and two others survive and keep walking.

At some point, a little bit before the place where Clay parts from the rest of his group to find his son, Alice has the same idea as Tom and the others and decides she shouldn’t go to Kashwak. She parts way with her two companions.

With some difficulty, she finds another small group that lives in a town close by. It’s a Native American family that wasn’t directly affected by The Pulse, altough a bunch of their neighbors got infected. They were coming back from a trip from the supermarket when they met Alice. She was exhausted and barely stood straight on her feet, so they took her in. (They were wary of her, thinking she was a phoner, but a teen the age of Alice insisted they tried to help her.)

They brought her home and laid her down on the couch. Before she falls asleep, feeling somehow that the Raggedy Man was up to something, she tells the family that she cannot leave, that she absolutely needs to find her own group (that she calls her family in her half-asleep state) and that she cannot go to Kashwak or else she’ll never be able to leave. She passes out then, with the family confused but the teenager named Michael but called Mikey or Mick by friends and family, is determined to watch over her to make sure she’s okay. Knowing that Mikey was excited to meet another teenager that wasn’t infected (especially after all his friends became phoners), his family let him do his thing, but keep a watch over him. He sleeps in the living room so he can be there for Alice when she wakes up.

While everyone is asleep, Mikey is awaken by the front door opening. He realizes Alice is gone and she left the house. He quickly runs after her to catch her. He tried to ask her where she’s going, but she just mumbles that she needs to go. She acts like a zombie, so he assumes that she’s tired and desoriented. He slowly leads her back inside, which she doesn’t fight.

When he comes back home, his family is in the living room, and see him coming back with a barely-there Alice and assume once again that she’s a phoner. After a lot of back and forth in which Alice tries to go once again, they hear her mumble that it’s calling, but that she doesn’t want to go, that she shouldn’t go. They all seen the visions where she was on a pedestal as an untouchable, so they think they understand what is going on. Mikey’s grand-mother refuses to let the phoners get to the girl and proposes to tie her up so Alice doesn’t leave until she isn’t under the hive’s control anymore. Everyone agrees.

Alice keeps trying to flee until Clay and the others blow up the flock at Kashwak. She wakes up, completely disoriented, but Mikey is there and explains the situation to her. She cries from relief that it’s over (at least mostly). She then falls asleep again, but from real sleep this time.

When she wakes up, Alice thanks the family who took her in, but tells them she needs to go find the rest of her group. They insist for her to stay until she’s better rested and until they can gather enough supplies for her to go on the road again.

She stays for three more days, helping the family and preparing for the search she’ll have to do. When she’s finally ready though, Michael asks to go with her. He didn’t tell his family, so she tells him that, if they agree, she doesn’t mind.

When he tells them though, they all say that they don’t like to see him go with an almost complete stranger. He tries to argue that he can’t leave her alone and that he’ll be back eventually, but they don’t budge. Alice bids goodbye to all of them and, before she leaves, Mikey ask if she at least has a plan. She tells him that she’s going to Kend Pont first since it’s the only clue she has about where her group could be.

In the evening after she left, Mikey decides to sneak out and go with Alice regardless of what his family thinks. Little does he know, his family is waiting for him outside his bedroom window. They all expected for him to try and leave. He thinks that’s the end of the adventure before it began, but they all tell him that they can’t stop him. They give him more food, his father give him a hunting knife for protection and they all hug hum goodbye. His mother orders him to come back as soon as he can so they know where he is or, at least, where he’s going next, and he accepts.

Mikey quickly follows the road that Alice had to take to go to Kent Pond. He walks in front of a house when the door opens. He take out his knife to protect himself, when he sees Alice on the other side of the door, smiling at him. She tells him she expected him to follow her regardless and invites him inside.

They travel together to search for any person of Alice old group. Their progress is slow, but constant. The weather is getting colder, and Mikey tells Alice they need to consider settling down somewhere for the winter, either by going south until snow starts to fall, or by going back to his family house.

Alice postpones to make the decision. She refuses to believe her chances of finding the others are extremely low, but she knows that if they wait until after winter to keep searching, those chances will drop to zero. Mikey knows it too, but he doesn’t want to be the one who has to voice the bad news to his friend.

They keep searching. November is getting closer, but they keep going. Until one day, they stop at the first non-empty house they met since Mikey’s house. They consider knocking, both starting to miss the feeling of civilisation. After some back and forth, they make the decision to knock, since Alice thought she could ask if they had seen a group of two men and a child somewhere around here.

They knock, and are met with silence. Mikey then calls out, saying that they aren’t phoners, that they are just surprised to encounter other people after walking alone for so long. They wait a few more minutes before the door creaks open slightly.

A man looks at Mikey through the crack with a tired eye that gives the teenager the creeps. When the eye falls on Alice, it widens with disbelief. The man gasps before opening the door completely.

Clay couldn’t believe that Alice is alive. At first, he thinks the lack of proper sleep is making him hallucinate. Yet, Alice recognizes him instantly, calling out his name and explaining that she survived.

Before she can finish her explanation, Clay hugs her tightly and cries with so much relief. Alice can’t help the tears from falling out her eyes as she hugs him back.

After the long hug, he invites both teens inside. Johnny is there, after the reprogramming. He still isn’t the same as the boy he used to be (he still wakes up in middle of the night screaming and have some ohoners abilities like telepathy), but he remembers more than before. After the introductions, they catch up on everything that happened since they parted ways.

Johnny likes Alice a lot. Since he also has difficulty speaking and sometimes forget things, he sees himself in her. She’s also way more open-minded about his situation than Clay who still has difficutlies ajusting to the changes as she understand what the boy is going through.

Mikey is a little intimidated by Clay, and Clay cannot be fooled by Mikey. He knows that he has a crush on Alice and that it’s why he wants to travel with her. Clay doesn’t really like it, but since Alice doesn’t seem to know it (or pay attention to it), he decides it’ll be a conversation for later, especially since they decide to spent the winter together.

Mikey proposes to stay with his family. Clay isn’t sure it was a good idea because of Johnny’s condition, but he admits that it could be good to at least be closer to other survivors. They take the road again, and arrive just in time for the first snow that doesn’t melt as it touches the ground.

Clay, Johnny and Alice chose to live in a neighbor house while Mikey goes back to live with his family. They encounter a few problems here and there during winter, but February comes and better weather appears slowly. Johnny is doing better than before as he doesn’t wake up screaming every night, although it’s not a problem that disapear completely as he still often has nightmares about the hive. But, he regains some curiosity and vitality. He starts asking more and more about Tom and Jordan since Clay and Alice talk (and think) about them often. Clay and Alice start packing their stuff to leave, since they believe its time for Johnny to meet the others (and for the rest of the group to know that Alice is alive).

Alice warns Mikey that, soon, they’ll be leaving to find Tom, Jordan and the others. She tells him that, once they find them, she doubts she’ll have the possibility to ever come back here, so she wants to properly say goodbye before they part ways.

They decide to go on a sunny day in late February and Mikey has a hard decision to make: stay with his family or follow Alice somewhere up North with the hope he mind be able to come back to show his parents somewhere better and less isolated to live.
