"▥"x4. I need at least one for Alice and one for Tristan.

I unlock the front door and enter the dark living room. As Ireach for the light switch, the room was suddenly illuminated.

“Surprise!” Alice announced, bouncing up and down and clapping.

However, the other faces in the room didn’t look as thoughthis was meant to be a party. In fact, this looks like a setup or interventionas I scan each face in turn.

“Uh oh,” I manage to utter before Alice moves forward to takeme upstairs.

“Hey, love. Can wechat a moment?” Alice asked lowly as she sat down on the guest bed.

“Sure. What’s on your mind?”

The half-elf is momentarily distracted, bouncing on the bedas if testing it. However, as I move to sit beside her, she appears to returnto reality.

“Right! So, I hate alot of things right now. Hate is…well, not very comfortable. In fact, it issort of harshing my mellow, so…what’s going on?”

I release a breath and nod as I reach out to place a handover hers, preparing to console her.

“You’re a very, very passionate woman, Alice. And, due to yourcondition and attachment to Death, you have a very complicated relationshipwith life. You see life as something precious most of the time. You’ve beenfacing a lot of perversions of life, lately, though. Darsa’s baby sister. Anthion.Y’ri. It’s weighing heavily upon you.”

“So…I am going tosnap eventually?”

I can only nod before a shuddering sigh escapes her and shedrops her attention to the quilt she sits upon.

“Will Mousey stilllove me in the end?” She asks weakly, breaking my heart.

“Of course. You two will love each other forever, across all universes.I promise.”

Her head bobs subtly, loosing a few waves of thick blondehair from behind her tapered ears. She doesn’t manage another word before sadlyleaving the room.

Olivia Lovecraft

As soon as Alice left the room, Olivia entered. To myrelief, she looked to be in better spirits than when we last spoke. She had a glassof red wine in one hand and a cork screw in the other.

“I see you wereexpecting us,” she teased as she sat elegantly beside me.

“Honestly, I can’t tell anyone that I bought a wine opener because myimaginary characters shamed me into it.” [Real story, though. After thelast batch I did, I bought a wine opener.]

“Yes. I imagine thatwould make you appear to be quite mad,” Olivia nodded sagely. “So! I want to talk about the mysterious parcelsI am receiving.”

“I can’t talk about that with you. It is meant to be a mystery.”

“Well, yes, I understandthat,” she laughed. “But, if I amgoing to be convincing others to help me, shouldn’t I have more information?”

“Nope. You have to convince them with what I have given you.”

“Fine. But…is thisgoing to end with me in another filthy cell, starving and abused? Please just tellme that you are done with that overplayed trope.”

“I have no plans of putting you in another filthy cell or starving you.”

Olivia eyed me suspiciously, astutely picking up I mentionednothing of the abuse. She parted her painted lips to protest, but a soft knockcame at the door and she decided her time was up.

As the demon sat on the bed beside me, he kept his distance.He knows as well as I do that, I am not immune to his nature.

“I want to love her,you know, that right?” He stated after several breaths of silence. He refusedto make eye contact with me, but I understand too well why that is.

I made him this way, after all.

He was meant to be my truest monster. He had been slated todie as Helriel and never know this side of himself. He knew I had presented himas a sacrifice, but others saved him. Others gave him this new lease on life.

But even then, it wasn’t a cure for the demon he truly was.

“I know you do,” I whisper, missing the mark for comfort as Ido. “Iknow you want to be everything she needs and desires, but…”

He lifts his pale gaze, penetrating my soul and turning everythingto ice.

“But…I am going tofall short, aren’t I? I am going to always hurt her. I am going to give into myown desire to possess and consume everything around me? Is that it? Are you socruelly dedicated to the part I play in this world?”

The volume of his voice doesn’t rise, but I can feel hiswords rumbling in my skull with all the anger he is holding back.

“Will you have yourmonster, no matter what, no matter the agony it lives in? Will I never achievehumanity enough to even be her friend? Will I always walk this razor’s edge,wondering when I will be the death of the one thing that means everything tome?”

“I don’t know, Tristan. I really don’t know,” I confess sadly. “I amso sorry.”

“Maybe it would havebeen merciful to have just killed me then,” he states before standing andstorming out of the room.

Alice [Again!]

I was just about to walk out as Alice returned. She waswatching Tristan stomp down the stairs and very nearly walked right into me.

“Hey! Uh…well, I wasjust coming back to warn you that Tristan is pretty moody. Like, angstier thanany of the others. But…”

“Yea,” I reply dully.

“Yea…well, I tried.”

“You are simultaneously the damage control and the cyclone.”

“Awww. Thanks, love,”she grinned before skipping out of the room to join the others in the livingroom below.

Alice (looking at the clock): Placed 10 alarm clocks around the sanctum and set them to ring after an hour. I placed them 55 minutes ago.

Stephen (after 5 minutes): Alice!!!

Wong, laughing: You're so dead!

Alice, also laughing and using her gloves: Not if he can't find me!

Backstory

Alice Ward was a fairly happy child. She had parents who loved her and she loved them. She was a smart kid who did well in school, leaning more towards the arts than anything else. One day, however, tragedy strikes in the form of a car accident.

Unable to properly process the grief she experiences, Alice finds herself going to many therapists and doctors, nothing seems to really work for her. Along the way she hears about Kamar-Taj and finds her way out there.

The Ancient One takes her in, helping her work through her grief and depression to heal her non-physical wounds as best as she can. Alice begins smiling again, she pulls harmless pranks on other people, she laughs again. 

A gifted student of Kamar-Taj, the choice is hers, leave or stay and she choses to help others as she had been helped before.

It’s when Dr. Stephen Strange arrives that things become a little more interesting
