@alice-wil // fears of the future
I know this letter might seem out of nowhere, since we haven’t talked since you left Hogwarts, but I need some advice and was hoping you’d be willing to talk with me since you’ve got some experience in the same area. I’m in my last year of school and trying to figure out plans for afterward. Recently, I’ve decided that I want to try to gain acceptance into the Auror program at the Ministry -- yeah, I know, you’re shocked that I’m not trying to become a professional Quidditch player, right? All of those natural skills gone to waste! But I want to do something that matters, in the grand scheme of things. I want to fight against these psychos who are trying to convince the wizarding world that purebloods are the only ones who matter. And I guess, as far as I know, the best way to do that is to become an Auror.
Obviously, I know that working for the Ministry comes with its own set of problems, though, and I’m just ... I’m not second-guessing my choice, but I’m a little worried about it. Dumbledore made me Head Boy this year -- yeah, I know, he’s gone barmy! -- and some of my grades are slipping because of the extra duties. And really, so far, the Ministry has seemed pretty useless in the face of all of these people trying to ‘purify’ the wizarding world or whatever the Prophet is saying, these days. Not that I’m knocking you or the people you work with! I just want to do something, you know? Not watch as everything gets worse.
This letter is probably really rude; I ask for your advice, I insult your department, and I didn’t even bother to ask how you were. Is it too late now? How are you? There are rumors of an alumni thing coming up here at Hogwarts; I don’t suppose you’re on the guest list? It’d be nice to talk about all of this in person so you can see I didn’t mean to be a total arse. I hope you’re enjoying life in the real world - us poor sods are going to be joining you soon! Stay safe out there.
