Listening to Alice Cohen’s super nova of a beautiful album. Gives me that same feeling I’d get when I’d buy an album, sit and listen to the whole thing over and over again and fall in love with every song. #alicecohen #greatalbums2022 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cga6lfyrG9G/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Experimental Animation
Artist Research - Alice Cohen I visited the Vimeo page of Alice Cohen to take a closer look at her visual arts and the first thing I noticed was: they're very colourful and very visual, the image is engraved in this way where these colours would contrast with each other and create a more impactful piece. The colour really catches your attention because of their brightness in comparison to the darker backgrounds / basic colours which adds a layer of detail and creates a more interesting view. Furthermore, the really bright colours which work with each other also create a happy mood that really really gives no space for negative thoughts, it’s like you’re in constant admiration in her work. Asides from the colours they work really well with the retro theme (which is also supported by the music in some of her visual arts) that Alice utilises which makes a vintage atmosphere, almost feeling like it's taking us back in time. This is further supported by the smooth stop motion animation that accompanies these colours. It's not 60 frames per second, but almost like a comic book / flipbook kind of frame by frame which goes really well with her theme and very eye catching especially with the extra details that can be seen because of the slow frame by frame movement and because of this, makes most of her visual arts stand out a lot.
Through inspection through her work, I have decided to change my point of view regarding my visual arts and especially in my animation. I want to create something similar in a sense that I use more interesting textures and colour that will stand out when put together but more importantly create a more emotional invoking / impactful atmosphere. Right now the atmosphere of my current works are very basic and I could utilise some of my research into my actual work.
In my opinion, I really like Alice’s work because they’re absolutely beautiful, I should really look into messing around with colours even more, in the sense that they become more impactful and have a story rather than just random colour flicking.
