This magnificent necklace was designed by the famous Hollywood jewelry designer Eugene Joseff. Joseff pioneered the idea of renting jewelry to the studios in order to recoup the cost of making each piece. He would often reuse the entire piece, or sometimes disassemble parts of a piece to get a different look. In the 30s and 40s, it is estimated that about 90 percent of jewelry in Hollywood films was from Joseff. This necklace was worn many times over the years, with various pieces of it added and removed as needed. In 1941, it was worn by Alice Faye as Baroness Cecilia Duarte in 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑵𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝑹𝒊𝒐. In 1945, it was worn by Tallulah Bankhead as Catherine the Great in 𝑨 𝑹𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒍. Some of the pieces seem to have been turned into earrings!
