Hello, so sorry to bother you but I'm trying to track down the author of/the blog for an old Dean/Aidan tumblr series wherein Dean was a professor & Aidan an assistant. Some of the pieces were published on AO3 but not all I think & I've just had a PC crisis where I lost all bookmarks including the one for the tumblr where all the parts were posted. Hi omg yes it is me! That old Tumblr name was a-bit-not-good-yeah, which is the same as my AO3 (but they're underscores on ao3 instead of hyphens). There's a link on that Tumblr to the prof AU master list where you can access each individual post. Gosh it's nice that someone still cares about Prof au after all this time!

Fili is trying to take in and memorise the chaos that needs to become the correct order of courses, plates, saucers, wines and treats. Next to him Kili is doing the same, only with much more of a scowl.

“Kili. Kili, if you walk in there with that expression, they’ll think the soup is poisoned.”

“Artichokes, asparagus – what?!”

“Eyebrows.”

“Right. Artichokes –“

“Remember the garnish.”

“Of course I remember the garnish! Asparagus –“

Quarter to eight. Table inspection.

Dinner gong at eight. Delivered by Kili, as usual, with slightly more flourish than strictly necessary. Kili loves ringing the gong.

I had a hard time pinpointing "one thing" to remember for you as a writer, but what I kept coming back to was I find myself going to you for a good fluff fix, especially that little series you wrote under your pseud and I also like that Christmas piece you did a few years ago.  You do angst well too, but I love the way you do "sweet" and "gentle" and "love".

Gosh, thank you so much! You have no idea how much reading this means to me, because I mostly struggle whenever I write fluff. I have no idea why I have such a hard time writing it, but that you come to my stuff for a fluff fix and that you view it as “sweet” and “gentle” is really such a big compliment!! I’m more of an angst writer, although having a good ending as the conclusion is equally important to me. Reading your message came therefore totally unexpected to me, but it also showed me something about my work I didn’t really notice before! :D

I wanted to let you know I so appreciated your posts on S2 Demelza! It's like you read my mind (and heard all my inner rants I've had to keep to myself for months). I could go on and on, but I'll spare you except to say another thing that took away any sympathy I had for her was when she decided she would take Jeremy to go live with her horrible, horrible father! She would subject her son to that monster just to stick it to Ross?! That was appalling. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Thank you, and YES! That’s something no one has even brought up yet, but you are of course right: she’d honestly prefer Tom Carne over Ross? That man was the sole reason why she seduced Ross in the first place, so she didn’t have to go back to her father’s house!

She was rightly scared of him during the christening scene in S1 - with good cause, as it turned out. He doesn’t accept her husband; he barely accepts his granddaughter. And his new wife doesn’t seem to be any better as well, turning him from a drunk into a religious fanatic. Even in S2 when he appeared uninvited at the trial and began to slander Ross, Demelza looked like this was probably the worst thing that could happen to her. And no 5 episodes later she seriously considers going back to this man? What does she expect? That he’ll be a good Christian and embraces his long lost daughter and (what he’d surely see as) her bastard child?

Stuck between an unfaithful husband and an abusive father, I’d sure as hell know who to choose. Especially since Ross never treated her unkindly, not even when she made decisions that affected more people than just him and her.; not even when she can’t let go of his mistake and accuses him over and over again. He never says a bad word to her or hits her or treats her badly in any other way.

I don’t know if this is in the book as well; I think it’s just said there that she considers leaving Ross, which is one of many historical inaccuracies already in Winston Graham’s writing, and the screenwriters just took that and developed it into an entirely modern, 21st century, feminist approach. Leaving her husband just like that was almost impossible for a woman at that time, or at least extremely difficult from a legal perspective. It would have been entirely within the husband’s right to fetch her back and force her to stay with him. Law even intended for legal imprisonment of runaway wives. Plus, no respectable father would have taken such a daughter back in. Separation of couples on mutual terms did happen occasionally, but even then no 18th century gentleman with a gentry background would have allowed his wife to take the male heir of the family with her. That was simply unheard of.

Let’s not forget that in historical reality, as a miner’s daughter Demelza would have made a very, VERY good catch in Ross and any woman in the same situation would rather have tolerated Ross’ womanizing in exchange for a life that’s at least halfway secure and certainly 100% better than what her father could have offered her. Especially since Ross wasn’t even womanizing, not like Francis for example who cheated on Elizabeth on a regular basis. If Ross had been cheating on Demelza for years and years without remorse, then the viewer would probably be more sympathetic towards her returning to her father, but honestly? HONESTLY?! Ross lost control once, with a woman who he has loved for a decade, and he regretted it halfway through the act. Not to defend Ross’ adultery and his antics in any way, but the worst things he did are not even near in proportion to what Tom Carne did to Demelza.

I do understand and agree with the writers' points, but I would like to say that after leaving a good-size **complimentary** comment on a fic and being told by the writer in return that my comment was not "good enough" that has pretty much made me hesitant to ever comment on anything again; hence, I remain mostly silent now because obviously my comments are not appreciated.

As a writer reading something like this just shocks me. This is horrible and I can’t believe that there are actually writers that treat their readers like that. I’m so sorry you had to experience something like that and I can completely understand that it made you reluctant to comment again. I have very little self-confidence so I know receiving such a reply would’ve crushed me, so I totally get where you are coming from. If you decide to comment on a fic again, I hope the writer will appreciate your love for their stories like they should! *hugs you*

#3 What’s your favorite line of narration?

That one is surpringly easy, it’s definitely this one:

It was the little brother of his usual smiles, but still blinding in its own way.

#4 What’s your favorite line of dialogue?

Mhh, that’s not as easy as #3, but I think I will go with this:

“I… I remember that music lesson like… like it was yesterday. We… we had to prepare a… a song and you… you sang that one about the fire and… and there was so… so much longing in your voice for… for a world you had never seen and…  that moment I knew that… if you ever went to explore this world… that I wanted to be with you… that… that I always wanted to be with you.”

#5 What part was hardest to write?

I think for one it’s the beginning of the fic, when they are ambushed. Fight scenes are quite tough and for a while I wasn’t quite sure how exactly they would get out of the situation. In the end I went with what felt alright, but there was never an exact plan on how this scene would turn out and I mostly floundered through it. And the other part was when Kili started to become feverish. I actually wanted to go a little deeper into it, but in the end I saw sense and decided against it, since I knew Kili would be sick for the rest of the story and so I didn’t want to overdo it before they were found by Thorin’s group.

#11 What do you like best about this fic?

Gosh, if I could tell. I love angsty stuff, so I always have a “good” time writing such stories (at least as long as they end happy or on a hopeful note). But I think the part I like best about the fic is that one image I will always recall when I think of the fic and that is Fili, holding a feverish Kili in his arms, ready to shield him from any sort of danger, regardless how exhausted Fili himself felt. I just think it describes their relationship really well, which is probably why this scene feels as intense to me as it does.

Oh gosh, I almost said something to you about this back when FJ started posting, but then I wasn’t sure if you still read Hobbit fic so thought I shouldn’t butt in. Darn! But I’m glad you found it in the end!

I’m still reading Hobbit fics. :) I’m just busy at the moment, because I’m working towards my uni degree. I would also still be writing Hobbit fics if my mind wasn’t completely blocked with uni stuff. :’D Thank you! I’m so glad I found it! I’m really enjoying it so far (although enjoying might be the wrong word when I just wanna wrap Kili into a blanket and give him the hugs he deserves, if he was actually feeling like taking them) and I hope you too if you are also still reading Hobbit fics. :3
