and there was only one bedroll ...
We could never tell if you were my brother or my father, but to me you were both. The best brother and father I've ever had. Thanks for being my family.
this one goes out to aubreyy the spam bot who tried to flirt but ended up dropping a banger quote, and to my bestie who said that this should be Vinh related fanart

GUSTAVE Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (2025)
We can't face him. You see him, you run. Only if you do the same.
Piñata Maelle (She couldn't parry it...😔)
It's an idea I've had in mind for several months.😆I'm glad I finally drew it
If Gustave were still on the team (let's not cry about it), I can't help but think that Verso and Gustave would have had a fierce rivalry, given how overprotected they both are from Maelle. But that with time they could have become very great friends. The fact that both seem to have a passion for trains...🥺
I would love to have an interaction with those two.

I think Gustave is the only person who could have even come close to convincing Maelle to leave the canvas of her own volition. He would have fought harder than anyone to protect her, to make her decide to live in a painful reality rather than in the beautiful lie. Because he can't just watch her wither and die in front of him, her power slowly draining as she gets lost just like Aline. He'd make her understand why she needs to leave. 'Lumiere is more important than any one life' but Gustave repeatedly prioritizes Maelle over anything else. He sacrifices himself (knowing DAMN WELL HE HAS THE LUMINA CONVERTER WHICH THE ENTIRE EXPEDITION STRATEGY IS BASED ON) so that Maelle has a chance of escaping Renoir. I think he would accept the demise of the Canvas to keep her alive, he sacrificed the mission for her before and after seeing Aline I can't imagine he'd be ok with Maelle becoming another version of her. Would Maelle have listened to him? I'm still not sure, but I think if anyone had a chance it would be Gustave. That's her brother-dad, the man who raised her and showed her so much love. Verso lies all the time, Gustave only ever broke one promise to Maelle and it was to protect her. He also understands what it's like to be Disabled (obviously not in the same way as Alicia but it's still significant to me) and could help convince her that her life outside the Canvas doesn't lack a future.
Which is why it's so sad that Verso let him die. From Verso's perspective it's entirely understandable, if Maelle was to find out the truth the less people tying her to the Canvas the better. And he doesn't know Gustave in the way we do, for all Verso knew Gustave could have been the biggest 'keep the Canvas alive' champion out there. But in being too cautious, Verso lost who could have been his biggest ally in this fight.

A little sad wet Gustave
I've begun an underpainting experiment. I will use all of the colours. And I will use this sad game about art and grief to do so.
We always said the future of Lumière was more important than any individual life. Do you still believe that?
