Last week I attended a webinar on police free high schools. I learned about the school to prison pipline and policing in high schools. 48% of high schools in the United States have police stationed at school. The school to prison pipline is a process where schools criminalize children. The reason why many of these cases occur is normal behavior (chart above). Students are being criminalized for minor behavior. This system is most harmful to students of color and students with disabilities. A statistic shows that for every 10,000 students, 221 Black boys with disabilities have referrals to law on them and 64 arrests. The school to prison pipline is extremely problematic and needs to see change. On the webinar, Ni'Keah Manning, part of the Black Organizing Project, shared the recent successes of her organization. They have worked to remove police in highschools and replace with mental health professionals across the country.

Yesterday, I worked on adding local government officals to the list for Grassroots Law. They have a great database, but some missing cities in Massachusetts.

today we went hiking at the needham town forest! it was so buggy we had to go and drive to get ice cream instead.
