all of this is under the cut, because it's pretty long
like legitimately, it is very, very long
i'm just straight up lore dumping out here, all of it •_•
starting simple with the protagonist, which is Ruben/Ruby Stein
pronouns, gender, and sexuality, all undecided, i just usually use They/Them for them
age, mid 20's
probably should show this, this is what they currently look like
might tweak a few things later, but overall i really like this design, i think it's fitting
so, backstory time
they have a family curse, where the first born automatically has, the legendary wish granting powers of, the witch's heart
when they were roughly either 15 or 16, their family was attacked and their parents and two younger siblings were killed, because some people figured out that at least one of them has the witch's heart treasure
they were taken in by Athena, for about 3 to 5 years(i'll get to her later)
leading them to, for the most part, isolate themselves from society, living in a cabin on a mountain in the woods, with Xenia ofc
while we're on the topic of Xenia, let's talk about her, shall we?

Xenia uses She/They pronouns, gender and sexuality also undecided
died at age 19, which was anywhere from 150 to 300 years ago
she is a half angel, half hater demon
which is visually represented, by splitting the neat and refined, and the more rough and dirty, to one side of them each that wording was terrible but you get what i mean, hopefully
while human, they were an heir to royalty
there was this one person she was really close to, they hung out alot together, and were really good friends
but he was just doing all that to get close to her, to be able to find a moment where they were vulnerable, to kill her
and sorry for the extensive detail on how they died, but it is important to their design
skip over this next part if extensive talks about death are uncomfortable to you
a divider for your troubles
she was ambushed from behind with a lighter, and leading her to getting subsequentially burned because of it, hence the short charred hair on the one side
and then after a little bit of struggling, she got her eye gouged out, hence the discoloured eye, she can only see partially out of it
they got pushed off of the balcony that they were on at the time onto the fence below getting skewered sou hiyori style, as seen by the blood all over when she's re-experiencing her death

the angel part of the lore was by gavi, post on it linked here
and the hater demon thing is from the game
so i basically just mashed those two ideas together
the hatred should be obvious, the thing that she wanted to change, and had been wanting to for a while, is the unfairness, corruption, and unjustness, within the nobility where she's from, strengthened while she was dying
and the specifics on the pact, to fulfill it to completion, either a) the witch's heart must be used, or b) her wish to change things, is seen to the end
and because of the conflicting nature of these two she crudely got turned into both an angel and a demon, basically
for the reexperiencing their death thing, it's not as simple as just once daily
sometimes it's multiple times a day with lowered amounts of pain
sometimes it's every few days, that are excruciating, sometimes even worse than her original death
it's inconsistent and screwed up by the whole angel thing
awkward segway, but now onto Fruit Ninja
design here, there are a few things i want to tweak, but this is what i have right now
unfortunately Fruit Ninja is not his actual name, it's just a current placeholder, because i haven't thought of anything yet

sexuality: not exactly sure, but at absolute least, mlm
age: late 20's
finally getting onto some plot here
backstory, not sure on yet, but whatever it is it will tie into what his wish is
which is their main motivating force throughout the story, his wish is neither inherently positive nor negative, it mostly depends on the wording(once again what it is is still tbd)(although i might change this idea later)
also has a massive fear of witches
so him, Ruben, and Stephanie, all eventually form a little trio, searching for more information about demonic pacts and the witch's heart, for completely different reasons tho
okay alright onto Stephanie Stien, yes you read that right
unfortunately i do not have a design for her yet

pronouns: she/her
sexuality: unsure
also she is either 17 or 18, just an fyi
she is Ruby's cousin, she decided to start researching demonic pacts and witches and stuff along the lines of that, after hearing about what happened to Ruben's family
pulling a Vance(one of gav's ocs), and intentionally signing a demonic pact for one of her eyes, haven't decided which yet, to help with the research ig
and the purebred demon i mentioned in previous posts, is her pact partner
they exist, i haven't thought of much story for them yet, so unfortunately you don't really have much to go off of, nor do they have a design
Stephanie eventually tracks down where Ruben lives, to ask a bunch of questions like why do you leave? where were you? what happened? explain the whole witch's heart thing! yk stuff like that
begrudgingly, on Ruben's part, the two of them set out to do research on all of this, on the way they stumble across Fruit Ninja, and he joins their party
but they don't know that the two of them have demonic pacts, :) this is important
they first take a stop at Athena's place

i honestly love her design

sexuality, not sure on the exacts, but definitely sapphic
age: mid 30's
he is part of a witch thingy, there are five of them in total, each of them have their own specific title, for Athena, it is The Witch of the Woods
and fun fact, each of their individual locations forms a pentagram
he, briefly raised and taught Ruben alot of things in the span of 3 to 5 years, like mentioned before, so they're pretty close, Athena is like the cool wine aunt
the trio gets the information they can from her, and she sends them to another one of them within the witch pentagram thing
Azrail
fun fact, her name means "angel of death"
this is intentional, but i'll get that in a sec

sexuality: definitely aroace spec
also doesn't have a design, rip
so explanation for her name meaning, it's because they died, and were brought back to life by powers of an angel(i came up this after i named her[the angel part])
she is The Witch of the Mountains
the squadtm goes to her to find information, like previously stated, stuff happens blah blah blah, she sent them to somewhere else(unknown)
yes, this story is in essence a knowledge fetch quest
and on their way there, Fruit Ninja learns that they both have demonic pacts and have been lying to him, blah blah blah, he's not too surprised tho
so Ruben asks for Friut Ninja to kill them, so Stephanie is safe and lives :(
lots of arguing ensues, Fruit Ninja does kill them, gets his wish granted
you thought that's where the story ends, you are wrong tho(sort of)
boom, Ruby's a hater demon now
now you're probably wondering, why is that?
well, yk how in the game it says that some haters don't actually have hatred of humanity, and therefore have issues keeping proper human forms, this is what happens to Ruben
also cameos from the four main demons and eyeball monster
..........is that it? i think it is, or at absolute least the gist of it
so if you took your time to read this long ass thing, legitimately thank you, this took me over two hours to write(probably close to three), and it is like 1:30 in the morning right now
