How about an AU spinning off of the end of Season 2 where after weeks of searching, the team reluctantly concludes that Shiro must be dead. But rather than stick together, Keith refuses to accept anyone other than Shiro as the Black Paladin (including himself) so when the team tries to sort out who will replace Shiro, Keith decides to leave. He somehow figures out how to make himself look Galra and he sets out to infiltrate the Empire, figuring he’ll just have to take down Zarkon on his own.

Meanwhile Pidge decides if there’s no more Voltron because they’re down two paladins now, she has no more reason to stay. She also leaves, intending to search the universe for her brother and father, though she at least says goodbye before she takes off, unlike Keith. The team is down to Hunk and Lance, Coran and Allura.

Lance seriously considers just trying to go home, just giving up on Voltron like everyone else seems to have, but as he’s loading up Blue, getting ready to head back to Earth, he looks back and sees Coran and Allura watching him go, looking completely defeated. And suddenly he just can’t leave. He misses his family, sure, but Allura and Coran have lost so much already, he can’t bear to make that worse. Besides, he knows that if the Galra aren’t stopped, his home and his family will eventually be in danger, and he can’t live with himself knowing he’d be at least partially responsible for that. He stays.

Hunk was just going to stick with Lance, because they’re best friends, no matter what Lance decided, but he’s painfully relieved when Lance changes his mind and decides to stay. Allura and Coran are pretty much crying.

So the four of them become this tiny little resistance all on their own, sometimes working with the BoM group, sometimes on their own. They can’t form Voltron, but they’ve got two lions and a lot of gumption, and they’re going to do whatever the heck they can to stop Zarkon and the Empire.

Then one day, maybe years later, while Lance and Hunk are sneaking into a Galra facility on a mission to get supplies, info, and to cause some damage, they stumble upon a Galra soldier trying to release a very familiar-looking man who is floating in some sort of healing pod. Hunk almost attacks the Galra but Lance stops him, saying “I’d know that mullet anywhere.” A very surprised, very purple Keith looks up at them with wide eyes.

(Oh, and Pidge and her fam are totally there too. Keith and Lance get into a shouting match that draws their attention and leads the Holts right to the rest of the team. Pidge and Matt end up being the ones to figure out how to release Shiro from the healing pod, though they have to use Keith’s hand to actually activate the system. Then there’s a brief argument over how the group is getting out of the Galra facility and who’s taking Shiro where, which Lance and Hunk win by virtue of the Castle of Lions being the biggest ship, and the only one with healing pods.

Pidge’s dad marvels over how unlikely it was that they all managed to be reunited at the same time like that, but all of the Voltron Lions look very smug somehow for the next few days despite the fact that their faces are solid metal and can’t show expression)

Any Galra!Keith headcanons?

Okay before I get started 1) these headcanons are still going to follow the idea that Keith is a cat Galra alien thing because that’s my ultimate fave Galra!Keith design and 2) I have a bunch of other headcanons in my headcanons tag (I have them tagged as “claire’s headcanons” and “galra!keith” but unfortunately I don’t just have one catch all “Galra Keith headcanons” tag so you might have to dig a bit if you want to read them)

I haven’t been into Voltron as much lately but I’ll try to do justice to my favorite part-Galra boy

I still choose to believe that Keith is half Galra half Altean and along with being able to shapeshift/conceal his Galra form he’s able to learn and use Druid magic

Maybe his Galra mom had him with an Altean who died in the war and she fled to earth or something and his human dad adopted him and raised him as a human so he’d be as far away from all the alien bullshit as possible and would be safe

That half Altean part of him is able to give him resistance to Druid attacks but it takes some of his power to do that ofc, that’s why his hand turned purple but he wasn’t actually scarred when his hand got hurt that one time

He purrs. It’s just so cute I can’t escape it.

He has heightened senses (ex: taste, smell, hearing) and he can see in the dark (probably only when in his full Galra form though, using Altean magic/shapeshifting abilities for as long as he has to the point that he actually has to try to resume his true form probably dulls his senses too)

Along the lines of the one above, his eyes glow in the dark when he’s in his Galra form

He gets his fighting skills from his mom 

He discovers over time that he actually really likes certain alien dishes and it’s because they are naturally appealing to his Galra/Altean palate 

He got them fangs too when he’s in his Galra form LET KEITH BE AN ALIEN CAT BOY 2K-NOW

He’s able to train with Allura and Coran to hone his Druid powers and maybe even be able to sense auras/communicate with Balmeras at some point :D

Although part of it is his elemental affinity as the Red Paladin, I always had an idea that the Galra Homeworld would look something like this, so he probably has even more natural resistance to heat and extreme temperatures (to a point this includes cold if he has fur and Red Paladin heat manipulation abilities)

He likes having his ears scratched but does not like having his tail pulled or touched

Although Hunk is and always will be the strongest person on the team, if he’s in his Galra form Keith is probably the second strongest because he gets an alien strength boost (and some useful claws)

He picks up other alien languages (most notably Altean and Galran) very quickly if he actually bothers to check them out because his parents used to speak them when he was itty bitty (and he even starts practicing a lot with Pidge and it’s a bonding experience for them, no “bonding experience” puns intended :/ )

He’s able to form a stronger bond with Red after he becomes aware of his alien status because Red could always sense that, and since I also think it would be cool if his mom was the Red Paladin I bet Red could share things about her with him

i hope it's okay if i ask this? i feel really stupid because everyone on this website seemed to know galra keith was a thing before it was a thing? i did not see it coming. i feel like an idiot but i was just wondering, what was it from season 1 that made everyone else know?

Aw don’t worry, you’re not an idiot!! The foreshadowing of galra!keith in s1 was really subtle (like....I didn’t even notice the first time I watched until I saw people point out the Signs). 

Actually, waaay back at the beginning of the fandom I wrote a huge post about this here cataloguing some of the possible signs of alien Keith. It’s p long but if you want the short version, I think mainly what tipped people off was:

- he unlocked Galra technology with his hand on the Balmera- zarkon’s line “you fight like a galra soldier”- people speculating what thace’s motivation was (a lot of people including myself theorized he was keith’s dad, lol) & noticing the similarities between thace’s knife and keith’s (we were actually pretty spot-on there!!) 

keith was also revealed to be part alien in at least one other version of voltron (i wanna say it was voltron force but i’m not sure....although i think he was part altean, not galran) so that might’ve given people the idea in the first place.

@esteemeowler - Oooh ok, I get u. So like .... Keith could have one human parent (or even two human parents) but like .... some Altean/Galran genes somewhere in his ancestry or whatever! Hmmm good stuff.
