for no reason at all, more alien!sunflower duo: (trans) pride edition

bc they dont know any better how humans work, both pearl and scar have "periods" (they really just slaughter a rodent and its really confusing to all the hermits with good noses). scar has top surgery scars, because the only human male chest hes ever seen was grians and grians transmasc. pearl was just shown stock photos of farmers and cafe women when she had to take a human form and when she inserted herself into the hermits town gem, false, and wierdly etho pulled her aside to talk about transitioning goals, so she just rolled with it. hers and scars species dont have gender, and are instead divided by a bio-class system? like scar is smaller and frailer, but has more psychic/charismatic abilities, and pearl is more durable, but has less mirror neurons and doesnt have any cochlear structures whatsoever. shes deaf <3. but since they dont have or understand gender, they spend a large portion of their get togethers tearing through their notes to figure out what the Fuck is happening with all that. masculine? feminine? how- and they're BOTH superfluous?? so its just a vibe?? but then- GAH humans are so COMPLICATED. (yes, they are my beautiful creatures born of mine own lack of understanding in human concepts. so intriguing. please remove mine.)

i just want to be really loud about the fact that i 100% believe so very strongly in t4t shiny duo (not ccs obvs). gem bc she has ANTLERS! woo! canon trans character in my books! and pearl bc she's an alien and her species doesn't have gender, so she chose to be female upon interacting with more and more humans.

the general sector pearl and scar are from is very smell based. they use smell in the place of pain receptors or visual pattern recognition most of the time- in fact, scar can only smell when hes hurt due to a fragile oily lining below his skin that reacts to pressure, and a strong chemical in his blood that permeates the skin only when it is pooling, so scars specific breed can actually smell things like strokes and embolisms. pearls planet is almost always eclipsed, so her eyes are super sensitive- she uses smell to determine how far things are, and is mostly deaf. anyway, if something happens where an unfamiliar smell gets on them, its instinct for another alien to help them get their scent back to normal. this leads to a LOT of dust baths, like chinchillas
