i headcanon scar as trans, not just b/c his name is scar, but also because i love the idea of scar walked around shirtless b/c he can do that now w/o... issues and grian being just like "yes, scar, we see your new top surgery scars. very cool. put your shirt on" and scar just silently puts his shirt on, looking like a little wet cat while doing so

bc they dont know any better how humans work, both pearl and scar have "periods" (they really just slaughter a rodent and its really confusing to all the hermits with good noses). scar has top surgery scars, because the only human male chest hes ever seen was grians and grians transmasc. pearl was just shown stock photos of farmers and cafe women when she had to take a human form and when she inserted herself into the hermits town gem, false, and wierdly etho pulled her aside to talk about transitioning goals, so she just rolled with it. hers and scars species dont have gender, and are instead divided by a bio-class system? like scar is smaller and frailer, but has more psychic/charismatic abilities, and pearl is more durable, but has less mirror neurons and doesnt have any cochlear structures whatsoever. shes deaf <3. but since they dont have or understand gender, they spend a large portion of their get togethers tearing through their notes to figure out what the Fuck is happening with all that. masculine? feminine? how- and they're BOTH superfluous?? so its just a vibe?? but then- GAH humans are so COMPLICATED. (yes, they are my beautiful creatures born of mine own lack of understanding in human concepts. so intriguing. please remove mine.)

I've been encouraged to think about transfem Scar. I think she's always liked the performance and certain aspects of masculinity but not been very attached to being a man, and it takes her a while to decide that those aren't the same thing. I think it'd be funny if Grian was still repressed when Scar was flirting with him and said something along the lines of "I don't like men" to which scar hit back with "I could just be a girl then" and starts presenting REALLY startlingly femme and saying she wants to be his girlfriend and starts going by she/her and having a great time and this goies on for several weeks until one of the more trans hermits is like "Hey. I don't think a cis guy would be this excited over playing a girl for a bit for three weeks." and Scar's like hrm. I don't think Scar would have a lot of dysphoria and wouldn't really question her gender until it was pointed out or maybe some Hermit, maybe Joe, still uses she/her for her when she's fully out of performance and she's like OH. Anyways I think she'd take estrogen and get bottom surgery but I don't know how much she'd be able to get based on her health. oh but she WOULDN'T want facial feminization surgery she loooves how her face looks. She/her woman with extremely fluid gender presentation to me. Oh and she'd still take her shirt off whenever she wanted
