A trans man's writings and advice.
Y’all it’s been forever (I keep making new drafts and not finishing them) but I finally finished a new blog post and you should read it, especially if you’re a science, sci-fi, or comics nerd!
Notes on Zamusha
(importing from twitter so I don’t lose them)
These are general notes from very rough translations of the Daikaiju Rush profiles and may not be accurate.
Nodachi
Nodachi Zamusha is kinda like Eiji from OOO. Except he's more aloof and independent. The nodachi he uses is as pretty much as big as him, very long and tall. His cursed sword amplifies desires to the point of corruption probably, but Nodachi doesn't have any desires and is able to maintain himself while using the sword.. Wears specialized armor too. Although there's not much detail on it, it's at least built to resist Antlar's magnetism.
Nagina
Nagina is a warrior of unparalleled strength, but he is also reliable and has a great personality. He is passionate and wise, boasting a naginata as his weapon. Great at positioning and aims to strike his foe down in one hit. He is willing to see Yumi Zamusha as a leader and will take orders/advice from her, but they do not always work together towards a single goal.
Yumi
Yumi....her profile definitely emphasizes on her beauty. She also kinda has a motto of "One shot one kill," but unlike widowmaker, she's supposedly kind and polite. She is elegantly skillful and proud, being able to focus her entire body and mind into a single shot. A strategist and a professional in her field, you can tell she has a presence of a hunter at first glance.
Putting everything in perspective, the Zamusha in Mebius really does feel like a rookie. From everything that I can gather, I get the feeling that zamusha are trained/proficient in many types of weapons but at some point dedicate themselves to a single art.
Although other zamusha have more specialized weapons (nodachi blade, naginata, bow and arrow), zamu still has a general katana. About his katana as well, he named it Hoshikirimaru (star cutter), which may be influenced by Nagina's weapon (star melter). The fact that his sword has -maru at the end implies a more child-like impression and nature when compared to Nagina's...naginata. Just like his sword, zamu, in comparison to the others in the zamusha tribe, is young and immature.
In conclusion, zamusha is a rookie who left home to get stronger only to get his ass kicked a week later
Zamu headcanon zone
Borrowing slightly from sengoku history (mostly date masamune), Although Zamusha are independent by nature, they may take on students. When the student reaches a certain point of maturity, their teacher is the one to remove their right eye.
It’s a tradition born from a sense of pride, that they are strong enough to take on opponents of equal or greater strength while burdened with a handicap. (Date Masamune removed his own eye due to an infection, and despite disapproval from his mother towards this handicap, he quickly rose to power and became a well-known and respectable leader)
Adding to that, however, zamusha make it a goal to retrieve their eye from their teacher and thus dedicate themselves to a path of becoming stronger. The retrieved eye is then used as material to craft a new eye patch for them to wear. Should their teacher meet an end before they achieve this goal, they will forever carry the burden of their teacher’s weakness. Zamusha in this circumstance will not be able to take on a student.
Back to the current zamu tribe, the rookie Zamusha probably studied and trained under Nodachi, given how his current weapon of choice is a katana. He probably also looks up to Nagina, naming his sword after Nagina’s Star Melter.
Having a teacher like Nodachi, who is a legendary swordsman wielding a legendary sword, there’s probably a lot of pressure on him to get stronger. This may account for why he only wants to become stronger, without much of a purpose for his fighting–until after meeting Mebius.
