a ‘lil update.
Wow, this is the first and only text post I’ve ever put up on this blog. I definitely tried to stick a photo here, but my computer just doesn’t have the scratch disks for that!
That is one of the reasons why my posts have been put on hold. Trust me, I have SO much content that I still need to post.
Here’s that list:
A few more days of Alaska (Skagway, Ketchikan and a cruise overview.)
Vancouver (Which includes an Aquarium post and Harbour Centre.)
Seattle (Pike Place, Touristy sights, and the Seattle Art Museum.)
Marian and Loren’s visit (Disneyland, San Diego touristing, etc.)
& most recently, my cousin’s visit (Zoo, Hiking, and lots of beaching.)
Assorted polaroids from all those events.
Also have to edit a vlog of just rando weekends.
So yeah, I have plenty to review, edit, write, and post - all which I’m very excited about. Unfortunately, the lack of memory that my laptop has makes it impossible to do anything (Can’t even create a text layer in photoshop, let alone open a damn picture.)
That, plus my numerous guests the past couple weeks, explains the lack of posts. It’s nice to see that every now and then I see a new follower pop up + a post being reblogged even though I don’t post (people really like Better Buzz Coffee.)
The positive side is that the hard drive I ordered should be coming tomorrow! Then I will gut my computer, and merrily be on my way. I’d really love to edit everything and get a queue going - the return to NY/School is just a few weeks away and I know that I won’t have the diligence to post things then.

My blog just hit a mini-milestone of 100 followers! Thank you everyone who reads my posts. I really appreciate having this little audience to share my adventures with. In honor of this occasion, I thought it was time to post a little about me page.
about me: Alina Chong.
I am a twenty year old, Malaysian/Chinese American, who was born in San Diego, California. I am currently an incoming junior at Pratt Institute, in Brooklyn, NY as an Advertising/Art Direction major. These are semi-constants, minus my age and what year of college I’m in.
Here are some very constants. I’ve been on a Pescatarian diet for nearly a decade now. I have an intense, overwhelming adoration for animals, and my favourite animal often changes. My love for art and design is all encompasing: I love traditional illustration, as well as graphic design and typography; packaging design, interior design, branding, photography, etc. My favourite movies and television shows are cartoons. Disney runs through my bloods and powers my heart. I am horrible with money and often spend it on vinyl collectible figurines, new pens, and drinks in fancy packaging.
A bit more deep into the psyche now. I am defined on the Myer-Briggs personality test as an ISFJ; I find that this defines me very well, and can sum me up as “an introvert with extroverted needs” (which I think is funnily sad.) I was taught to be polite and caring; I am naturally protective and loyal.
One of the greatest (and most accurate) way I’ve been described was written in an end of the year email by a sophomore-year professor. “You are a quiet person, but hardly shy or bashful. In fact, having got to know you a little better over this year,I’d describe you as a force of nature.” I can spend my whole day not saying something to you. I don’t like to put myself out there, or be pulled out of my comfort zone. But, I am loud. Very, very loud.
Writing this now, I realize why I never wrote an about me. I find it really hard to define myself, especially because I’m constantly changing right now (ugh so cliche I hate it, vomits.) To sum this up right now, because I’m sure I’ll change it within the next month - here are some of my favourite feelings that I think define me. Pink sunsets on blue mountains. Music blasting with the windows down, and filming it with my Gopro. Hugging my brother. and taking your pants off at the end of the day.

The trip I’ve been waiting for is finally here.
2 weeks in Alaska, Vancouver, and Seattle. I’m so stoked because I haven’t traveled somewhere since Spring Break and I’m already dying of the routine of being home.
Some of the essentials I’m bringing with me: gopro, because we’re gonna be hiking and cruising and seeing some real awesome stuff, I’m also loving making videos. instax camera, I stole this from Loren for the summer FOR this trip. I’m hoping to get some polaroids of alaska because what’s more hipster than that? reading material, I’m probably going to finish Yes Please tonight, so I won’t bring that along. I do have Salinger’s Nine Stories though, and my mom got me some Buddhism book to quell my angsty heart. Gotta read, we’re on a cruise with no wifi for a week.
The rest are just silly tidbits. Tiny labbits to keep me company and some hamburger socks that I find hilarious because my mother bought them for her vegetarian for the past 10 years daughter.
Hell week is over at Pratt Institute, and so we (Myself, Loren, Marian, and Angela aka my future room mates) took it upon ourselves to go out. Game plan was: shopping, dinner, and to watch Avengers.
Shopping, check - Urban Outfitters and Forever 21. I'd been looking for a pair of jeans and I just got a cheapo $8 pair, plus a cool snapback and a necklace. Everyone else managed to find stuff too, so that's successful in my book.
Dinner, check - The other three got boba from Come Buy, and I was getting hangry so we went to dinner a bit earlier than planned. We went to Laut, a Malaysian restaurant, which I've blogged about before. I treated myself to a Milo Dinosaur, and a seafood sar hor fun.We shared a roti canai; Angela got Hokkien mee, and I recommended for Marian and Loren to try char koay teow. The nice people who work there, that are fond of Angela, treated us with a free mango sticky rice (which was so good I ate 50% of it.)
Movie, check - Avengers 2 was pretty good. The Marvel universe gets too complicated for me; I have to remember all these connections from Thor and Captain America and Xmen. Gets crazy, I'll probably ask Gummi to explain it to me. But anyways, it made me in the mood to rewatch Pacific Rim or Guardians of the Galaxy, so I'll probably watch those with Loren soon since she hasn't watched either before.
Sorry about the lack of exciting blogs. Finals week and stress killed me last week. But I have tons of summer travel plans, which I'll be blogging about soon- and we're going out to Smorgasburg again before I head back to Cali.

Finally finished the finals for two books for my Type class, and I remembered that this seal pamphlet existed for Design Procedures. Survey (my studio final) is next week, and I’m in pretty good shape. Just a few more things to finish up and then it’s summer!
Typographer Book: For type, we had to do research on some notable typographers. Each person in class did their own guy, and we all pooled the information together so that we would have a bank to pick and choose from. I decided to go with typographers who designed famous san serif typefaces. Paired it with some pretty colors and a clean grid and we golden.
Classic Wheels Magazine: Also for type, Prof Erik provided us with an article that was edited and finished but never published, as well as accompanying professional photos. This was a difficult project at first, just because my interest in cars is at a big zero. But, after a few drafts, I found a design I liked and was able to translate it through my spreads. In the end, I like how it looks as a finished piece.
Seal Pamphlet: For Design Procedures, we had to make an informational science pamphlet, and so I chose the least sciencey-science thing I could: SEALS. La Jolla Children’s Pool was a SD landmark I grew up with, and I loved getting to research harbor seals a bit more in depth. Illustrator’s still a B though, but overall it was enjoyable.
