Harbor
Alistair was water; too soft and transparent and vague. The daggers in Inara’s eyes tore through him like tissue. She was rough. She was steel and earth and rock. Hard and sharp and jagged, built to strike. To cut with her words, to crush with her eyes. To stand.
But with time and effort the sea can wear down the shore, can dull and soften the edges of stone, can polish steel until it shines like silver. And the sea always loves the shore and it doesn’t know why.
