Qianzhousaurus sinensis attacks Corythoraptor jacobsi.

The remains of Qianzhousaurus, including a skull and partial postcranial skeleton, were discovered in layers of the Nanxiong Formation during construction work. The animal was nicknamed "Pinocchio Rex" due to its long snout. It is related to Alioramus, known from the remains of juveniles of two species. However, the remains of Qianzhousaurus belonged to a more mature animal. It was larger and had thicker teeth, but retained the elongated proportions of the skull and a gracile build. This suggests that Alioramus and Qianzhousaurus hunted small, agile prey. Numerous oviraptorids have been found in the Nanxiong Formation, including the Corythoraptor depicted here, with its distinctive high crest on its head. They could easily have been prey for "Pinocchio Rex."

The ukasu is a derived alioramin tyrannosaur native to the island of Tlaaktu where, despite its relatively small size, it reigns as an apex predator due to a general trend towards dwarfism among the island's fauna. As with other tyrannosaurs, the ukasu's primary weapon are its long, powerful jaws; despite their wicked appearance, the male's enlarged halluces aren't robust enough to be used as weapons and are instead used in high-stepping visual displays meant to attract mates and intimidate rivals. After mating, ukasu pairs typically stay together only until the female lays her eggs, at which point she will leave the male to brood and raise the young.

The ukasu features heavily in the culture of Tlaaktu's native human population, where it is revered as a protector of the island's forests and invoked as a symbol of honor and strength.

This is a fictional species of tyrannosaur that I came up with for Gondolend, a writing and worldbuilding project that I spent around twenty years working on. I've since abandoned it for various reasons, but since I liked how this guy turned out I'm reusing it for a new dinopunk project.

Qianzhousaurus sinensis, a tyrannosaur from the Late Cretaceous of southern China (~72-66 mya). Measuring about 9m long (29′6″) it had an unusually long and slender snout for a tyrannosaur, leading to its nickname of “Pinocchio rex”.

The only other known long-snouted tyrannosaur was the closely related Alioramus from Mongolia -- but since only juveniles of that genus have been found so far, it’s also possible that Qianzhousaurus was actually just a fully-grown species of Alioramus.
