Book updates

I am always looking for good reads so I thought I would let you all know what I have been reading this summer in case you need some recs. 

The Disappearances - Emily Bain Murphy

*Very interesting twists. Not like anything I have read before.

King’s Cage - Victoria Aveyard

*Love this series. My favorite was the first book though.

Dumplin’ - Julie Murphy

*Nice, feel good story. Nothing deep or shocking.

Necessary Lies - Diane Chamberlain

*My favorite read so far. Shocking, deep, historically significant.

Stardust - Neil Gaiman

*Cute little story, looking forward to watching the film at some point. 

The Art of War - Sun Tzu

*Easy, different read.

1984 - George Orwell

*Didn’t like it after I read it, but now can’t stop thinking about it. 

Gangland New York: The Places and Faces of Mob History - Anthony M. Destefano

*Good history read.

The Miniaturist - Jessie Burton

*Good story, slightly shocking and different.

I liked all for different reasons...as you can tell...my interests are varied...

I am currently reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

finished the new season of OITNB...thoughts?

Ok so... this season was definitely not my favorite. Maybe because it was only the riot and there was not much going on besides that...

I also find the relationship between doughnuts and Pennsatucky troubling.

That being said, I loved that the stories of the women before the where in prison had nothing to do with why they were there. Seeing them in daily life (not doing anything illegal) was interesting and humanizing.

Anyways...what are your thoughts?

Favorite artists: velázquez, bernini, Michelangelo, goya, Takashi, Murakami, Monet, my friends (even the ones who won’t let me see their stuff) I am an art historian...so this is like movies and music...too many!!!
