LEGO Masters Jr is a spinoff of the FOX competition show LEGO Masters, which is about to wrap up its 5th season in the USA (and has dozens of versions worldwide). In the same vein as Master Chef Jr, it will give young LEGO enthusiasts a chance to compete in a format similar to the adult-only show. "Jr" editions of LEGO Masters already exist outside of the USA, but this will be the first season in the USA. Here is the first trailer, which dropped at Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 25. The show debuts on August 18, 2025, on FOX and streams on Hulu.

In this film, Alison Sweeney plays a copywriter who for some reason has been tasked with coming up with an entire ad campaign for a bookstore run by a tech bro (but... like... a nice one?). She's recently single, and the ghost of Jane Austen turns up in her apartment to help her navigate these transitions. Oh, and of course she's also a closet novelist.

A swing and a miss, I'm afraid.

The romance was pretty soul-less, probably because the male lead had no depth or arc. At some point the heroine yells at him something to the effect of "who even are you?!?" and we never really get an answer to that question. Jane Austen's ghost is under-used, as she mostly just chastises Sweeney's character for pouring tea incorrectly. We don't get to see her meaningfully engage with modern womanhood. On the plus side, I did get pretty invested in the subplot (her best-friend's love story), and I could have used more scenes from that plot line.

As far as the Jane of it all goes: there were a lot of Austen quotes and a charming fan club, but also some weird choices, like Austen-esque names given seemingly randomly to characters. (Most notably: the protagonist is "Lily Thorpe").
