it was a miracle that his phone worked. he didn’t question why he had it. he didn’t question why he had too many missed calls following the months after the mountain. that didn’t add up. from what chris had said, he was lost to the mountain ( just like his sisters !! ) and life went on. but it wasn’t easy for the others, and it sure as hell wasn’t easy for her. he nearly clicked out of the message and was going to carry on with his pathetic existence. but there’s a sick sense of relief that comes with learning that she hates him. GOOD. he deserves it. he deserves every ounce of venom she can muster.
but this is samantha -- too kind for her own good, and too damn forgiving of his actions. she wanted to talk to him. and from his understanding, he was a dead man who was unfortunately thrown into the land of the living again. i trust you sticks out the most -- he wouldn’t trust himself prior to the events on the mountain, you don’t trust people who are plotting ways to torment you in-between the times it was just them and they could forget the tragedies they were hurt by. he’s had a miraculous gift of just seemingly bumping into those he knows -- so he just accepts that as a fact, and continues on with his patrol of the city.
and of course, he sees her! bright and full of life, seemingly untouched by tragedy even though he knows. he didn’t need the voicemail to be aware that she was just a bad day away from falling apart. maybe he’d be the catalyst of that. he’s tempted to walk away, to let her be at peace because he’s more like a bad omen than he is a friend -- but he can’t stop himself from being drawn to her. he doesn’t want to. out of all his friends, he feels the most regret about making her a casualty of his grief fueled madness. chris is a close second, but she was the one who understood the loss of his sisters. she understood him. they had a connection... that he severed. “ s-sam? ” he’s testing the waters and he hates how unfamiliar her name feels on his tongue. but existing felt like foreign territory, being around others only added to the discomfort. “ i’m -- i’m sorry. ” / @alivcsgood liked this and hurt me with this !
