judy holliday and jack lemmon play a couple who get divorced but can’t seem to stay out of each other’s lives. this movie is so cute and i love it so. the dance scene is tops.

we don’t talk enough about judy holliday for my liking. she’s fantastic here. so funny. i also really like the other film she made with jack in 1954, it should happen to you.

i mean. it’s fucking rear window.

i do think the film gets a bit of shit these days by snobs but it’s a great set piece, it’s terrifying and a lot of fun and it’s popular for a reason.

what are your top October movies?

Oh dang I’m so bad at movies—remembering the ones I have seen and getting to the ones I haven’t. October for me is Clue, Shutter Island, Dead Poets Society, and The Shining. (October is also time for Ghost Quartet.)

Little Shop of Horrors is such a good choice.

And I haven’t seen Hocus Pocus, Nightmare on Elm Street, or The Lighthouse, but I want to, and they fit.

November is finally time for Fargo.

9. A song that makes you want to go on an adventure.

Probably “I Have Confidence” from The Sound of Music OR The main theme of Into the Woods - It’s funny because they’re kind of similar in their messages but have opposite effects. Confidence is her expressing her reticence and anxiety, but ultimately concluding she is capable and confident she can handle whatever the world throws at her. Into the Woods’ main theme also has this “here we go” attitude, but there’s a lot more irony in it, which I appreciate. Regardless, both make me want to look forward and push on!

Probably Vaughan Williams’ Silent Noon - specifically with Sir Thomas Allen singing it.

17. A song that makes you want to grab your friends jump up and down dancing and screaming the lyrics.

Is it too gay to say “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” from Mamma Mia? (Yes? GOOD!). “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down” by FOB works wonders, too.

1962!

carnival of souls (herk harvey) one of the more underrated horror films of the sixties,  features a ton of beautiful cinematography, and features fantastic performances all around, necessary watching but especially so for those who like independent films and/or horror

whatever happened to baby jane? (robert aldrich) a true camp classic, one that still feels intense despite the heightened performative nature of it all, AMAZING performances from davis and crawford, also really great production design, required watching tbh

cléo from 5 to 7 (agnès varda) varda is a master and demonstrated that from the beginning of her career; this movie is tender and intimate and heartwrenching and occasionally hard to watch imho but we get this beautiful insight into cléo’s life that doesn’t feel gaze-y or forced, truly just a fantastic film
