Atorvastatin, manufactured by Alkem Laboratories in India and distributed by Ascend Laboratories, was recently subject to a US FDA recall due to some batches failing dissolution tests (i.e., not releasing the drug correctly). In contrast, RHEA Atorvastatin available in the Philippines is imported from the original manufacturer, Pfizer—the brand-name producer of Lipitor—suggesting it is likely sourced from Pfizer's global generic supply.
