Fangirl's Top Ten: Music Videos of 2012
Hey guys, so I know, I haven't posted in forever. I was so looking forward to posting more regular music video Mondays after Septmber but it has been chaotic in my life right now.
As we're wrapping up the year 2012, I thought I'd share my top 10 favourite music videos that were released this year. This was such a difficult list to come up with. It honestly took me 2 hours just to narrow down the music videos. I am so looking forward to more albums coming out in 2013 and going to more shows.
These music videos are not ranked in order of favourites, but rather in order of release date. I don't think I could rank them in order of favourite. They would all be 1 haha!
1) The Midway State- All Anew (Released on Youtube- March 9, 2012)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKMCIKRmLaI
The Midway State released two music videos this year, it was a close tie between the two but of them this is my favourite (only by a slight bit). I love the story line, and the fact that the guys dressed up as different roles and teachers. They fit them so perfectly
2) We Are The In Crowd- Kiss Me Again (Released on Youtube- March 28, 2012)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BM3Rv2RO1Do&list=PLA58B56E9D972C3CF&index=13
We Are The In Crowd released a winner (in my mind) this year when they collaborated with Alex Gaskarth. I think this video is absolutely adorable and I just love the lyrics of the song. Tay Jardine is so gorgeous and her vocals are incredible! I LOVE this video
3) Tanner Patrick- Merry Go Round (Released on Youtube April 10, 2012)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZBkjhAUjF8&list=FLugo5ru3a1HXBvXZ2o_s1KQ&index=8
I remember seeing the teaser trailer for this music video and thinking, WHEN WILL THIS VIDEO BE OUT. I'm just going to fangirl a little bit over how cute Tanner is. This song is super catchy and definitely one of the top played on my ipod.
4) My Girl Friday- Love Will Find You (Released on Youtube April 27, 2012)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol0ODtHpg7o
Here's the part of the blog where I could go on forever. I'll try to keep it short. This song means so much to me. I think anyone who is single gets that feeling of hopelessness in finding love. I know I've had those days where I'm terrified that I'm never going to find the right guy etc. My Girl Friday released this song and I live by some of the words in here "To whom it may concern, Good Love will find you some day, but if you keep on looking for it, it will only keep you waiting, to whom it may concern, good love will find you someday till then live well. live happy. live free" Those last 6 words are going to be my very first tattoo and I've discussed with the lead singer (Justin Godsey) about getting them done in his handwriting. He wrote the lyrics that make me smile every day. Needless to say I think it is obvious why this is one of my ABSOLUTEL FAVOURITE music videos of 2012.
5) Paradse Fears- Sanctuary (Released on Youtube on April 30, 2012)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdKu_J5ebMg
Another incredibly powerful music video was released in the month of April. Paradise Fears rerecorded their song Sanctuary to include the speech that they performed with the song live. I am so incredibly happy that they did because the speech is so meaningful and inspirational. The music video and the song have given people hope, helped people figure out things that weren't going right in their lives and just given them a safe escape. Amazing video Paradise Fears!
6) The Summer Set- Mannequin (Released on Youtube May 31, 2012)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwwLCF8A2KQ
I love live music videos, it gives you a true sense of what goes on in the crazy tour life of bands. You get to see genuine reactions, from both the artists and the fans. You get to see how the music moves the audience. The Summer Set went out on tour earlier in the year with The Cab, He is We, Days Difference and Paradise Fears. I got to attend a show on this tour and the bands went together so well. In this music video you see the fun they have onstage and off with the other bands and it gives me a genuine happiness to see that these guys (and girl) are doing what they love.
7) William Beckett- Compromising Me (Released on Youtube June 8, 2012)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DIurJbZjRKE'
I've been a fan of William Beckett since I was in high school and when he was in TAI... When he announced the band was breaking up and he was going solo, I was pretty upset, but then I warmed up to the idea and purchased his solo EP's and they were incredible. He is such a talented singer/songwriter I should have never doubted his ability to succeed without a band. I have always been a supporter and will continue to be. The music video for compromising me was simple yet clever. I find it to be a really great music video and that smile -swoon-
8) Shawn Hook- So Close (Released on Youtube June 15, 2012)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSnYDh0yYFI&list=FLugo5ru3a1HXBvXZ2o_s1KQ&index=5
Hmm, What to say about this music video? Well I'm pretty sure I used this song back in a Music Video Monday (which right away means I LOVE it). I got a chance to be down at the Much Music Headquarters the day that Shawn Hook premiered this music video and I thought it was absolutely beautiful. It is one of my favourite songs off of his album and I think the lyrics are fantastic. I just love this music video so much, that may be because I absolutely love California (where the music video was filmed) and I also think Shawn Hook is quite the attractive man. I mean c'mon look at the boy, that hair. Okay enough fangirling. This has been a big year for Shawn, his album Cosmonaut and the Girl was released in May (I know, I went to buy it on its release day) and much Music crowned his fan name Hookers, which we later adjusted to Hooksters. He's been working hard to connect with his fans, play shows, and get his name out there- WAY TO GO SHAWN!
9) All Time Low- For Baltimore (Released on Youtube on October 18, 2012)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-n3laz3b8Y
This is probably one of the most creative music videos I have seen in a while. Props to whoever came up with this idea and developed it. All Time Low stuck with the same sort of style as on their album cover of "Don't Panic". I don't have too much to say about it except that I love it.
10) The Cab- Endlessly (Released on Youtube on November 14, 2012)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoWXANu5Rts
When I heard they were releasing a music video for endlessly I jumped around my room. My absolute favourite track off of Symphony Soldier. I waited 3 years for that album to be released and was not at all disappointed when it was released. I waited a year for this music video and the same thing. This music video does not disappoint, the concept is so simply yet so complex. I don't even think I fully understand it yet. I remember sitting around in my living room when I saw this music video. I think Filmgirl can vouch for the fact that I threw my phone at the ground and yelled about how beautiful Alex Deleon was (yeah, I'm a fangirl). Anyways it has definitely been one of my favourite music videos released this year.
Well that wraps it up. My top 10 of 2012. I had so much fun doing this, maybe tomorrow I will do my top 10 cover videos of 2012. yeah that sounds like a good idea. I hope you take the time to check out these artists and music videos. They have all worked so incredibly hard in 2012 and they deserve all the best
Till next time,
xoxo

Music Video Monday #2: The Midway State- All Anew
This video makes me feel-
(yep. like a fangirl)
Fangirl here, and for those of you who know me in real life you all knew this moment would be coming. For those of you who don’t know me, you should probably know that I am a big fan of the midway state, in fact they are the reason behind me playing piano and the story behind my best friend and I’s friendship. True facts.
Anyways this was really difficult to pick one music video as they all are really good.
So a bit about the band The Midway State band is a Toronto-based band in which two of the members are originally from Collingwood. They released their first full length album Holes in 2008 and their second album Paris or India which was quite a journey making (as you can find out in their documentary “I’ll be leaving in the morning” on youtube) was released July 19th 2011. I mentioned their documentary and I highly suggest you take the time to watch it, if their music catches your ear. it truly shows the hard work and patience and emotional struggle? yes struggle and all the stress that comes about making a record, but once the boys got past all of that they released what I personally was Album of the Year (I mean alongside Symphony Soldier). Now about this music video specifically. I think it’s adorable, the idea of the kids and also the fact that the video was filmed about 15 minutes down the road from my house. Those crazy boys love to choose film locations right by my house when I’m away at school. Anyways the vibes, the band members as the stereotypical teachers- Mike Kirsh as the Hippie Bus Driver, Daenen as the creepy PE teacher, and Mike Wise as the crazy Science Teacher…PERFECT! I love the performance scenes in the gym at the dance because I love seeing them smile, makes me see the real reason they make music…because they love to do it.
and they know how to treat their fans, as said in their documentary…
"One thing really important to us this time around is not to take that for granted and to really focus on y’know the direct relationship between us and the fans because their the ones who support us and allow us to be artists day in and day out, if we can facilitate that relationship then they can facilitate us being allowed to grow and learn than we’ve won. I think that’s the definition of the dream"- Nathan Ferraro
Anyways that pretty much sums up this week’s Music Video Monday. basically these are some of my favourite Canadian musicians and in honour of Canada Day I suggest you check them out! Also check out my favourite live version of this song here- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ar6lENnS8fw&feature=channel&list=UL
