The Maine September 7, 2015 Mod Club American Candy Tour

This was my 3rd time seeing the Maine live. It is pretty hard to beat the time I saw them on my 21st birthday and got a birthday shout out from John....BUT last night totally did. It was gross outside, rained in line, and then was a billion degrees in the venue. We all were covered in sweat but I was in complete bliss as I stood there and listened to one of my favourite bands perform their newest album in its entirety...they threw in some old ones too!

Beach Weather Mod Club, Toronto September 7, 2015 American Candy Tour

Yesterday was the first time I heard Beach Weather. I couldn’t have asked for a better opening act for the Maine. Don’t you love when you end up becoming a big fan of the opening act? My friends and I danced along to their entire set. They had so much energy and such wonderful stage presence along with catchy songs... there was not question of whether or not I would buy the What A Drag EP at the end of the night. The guys in the band were all very sweet at the end of the night and took the time for photos and signings. If you haven’t heard of them yet, start checking them out. RIGHT NOW. Team Hook Takeover

We want to start by shouting out to the Hooksters and of course Shawn Hook who made this event possible. We had a lot of fun promoting Shawn and we hope you did too. I know time can get crazy busy but for those of you who stuck it out with us, Congrats!

Morgan and I would like to give a huge shoutout to one VERY dedicated Hookster this month. The incredible George John Wardrop (@geowardrop). He consistently used the #TeamHookTakeover and was always so excited to participate in the challenges, without dedicated fans like you, this month wouldn’t have been a success. 

Just because the month is over, doesn’t mean the tweets have to stop. Remember to keep promoting Shawn Hook, so we can see him on the road soon!

Hookster Takeover March Madness Challenge 4

Well Hooksters, here we are! Challenge 4!

We must admit this week went by incredibly fast and we lost track of time! We both slacked on challenge 3 and that is why we have decided to extend challenge 3. We want to see all your challenges (previous and present) before the end of March so tweet them away! Get caught up and look back here if you forget what one is!

We also have a new challenge for you so it’s going to be a busy one.

Shawn Hook Appreciation Month: TeamHookTakeover Challenge 3

Good morning Hooksters!!

Thank you SO much for partaking in this March Madness takeover for Team Hook so far. The response from all of you lovely folks has been great! It’s wonderful to see everyone banning together to show some love and support of Shawn and his amazing music! The fanart that everyone came up with last week was amazing. We already knew you guys were talented but you just proved how multi-talented you all are. If you didn’t get a chance to do either of the previous last two challenges, it’s never too late to put something together and share it with all of us on the interwebs. We love getting to see what everyone comes up with, but we also know that certain days and such are quite busy, but if you ever feel the creative spark flowing, don’t hesitate to jump on a past challenge and share it with us. Heck you can even come up with your own little way of expressing some appreciation for team Hook! 

 Now, onward to the third challenge!! Challenge three is going to ask you to dig into your creative writing side just a smidge. This week we thought it might be fun to write a sort of ode to Shawn Hook. A little mini song if you will. It doesn’t have to be a full song, it could just be a little chorus, a verse, even a short little poem like thing. Whatever you are feeling. If you want to perform it and record it and post it that way, that’s amazing! If you just want to post the lyrics you’ve come up with, that’s amazing also! However and whatever you feel like writing shall be amazing. If you have a certain tune in mind that you’ve written your lyrics to, make sure you post that along with the lyrics, just so the rest of us can hear how it should go in our minds. 

Cannot wait to see what you amazing folks come up with! It’s astounding the amazingness that pours of of this group! We know you’re all probably living busy lives, but we are so grateful and thankful that you’re participating with us in this!

Hookster March Madness Takeover Challenge 2

Good evening Hooksters! 

We had every intention of having this up sooner in the day but somehow lost track of time between school, work, meetings and laundry.  First of all, we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated in the first challenge. It was great to see some members of Team Hook jamming to their favourite song. You were all so wonderful and enthusiastic! If you did not have a chance to upload yours before this post, you are still more than welcome to in the next few weeks. The great thing about a month madness, is even if the other challenges start, you can post old ones (and multiple ones)...there are not too many rules here.

Second, we want to see more hashtags! Keep using #TeamHookTakeover in all of your daily tweets! We are tracking it, so definitely spread the word! If anyone has any of their own hashtags they would like to suggest, hit us up on the twitta!

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for...Challenge 2! This week we want you to get creative, but not in the video sense. The challenge for this week actually requests that you get artsy! We want to see your best fan art! This means doodles, photoshop, edits, mock single covers, you name it, we wanna see it! You can make a poster and send us a pic, or if photoshop is more your forte, send us your edits! If you're like me (Rebecca) and not the strongest artist, don't give up! I've posted a few of the samples I've made in the past. We're excited to see what you creative minds come up with. The possibilities are endless!

Hookster March Madness Takeover

Hello Hooksters!

So, if you follow me on twitter (@riddickulous25), you’ve probably seen over the last few days, Morgan (@morgiemouse) and I have been coming up with a fun month long surprise for all of us hooksters to take part in. 

We’re going to call it thee “Hookster March Madness Takeover! “ or just the hookster takeover, it’s a tad shorter. Basically we want to spend some time and show some fan love for the ever talented Shawn Hook. We all know that 2015 is the year of a new album and we’re all beyond pumped for it, so why not show it?! The waiting period between singles and the actual album drop is always a little quiet on the twitter and social media front, so we thought why not dedicate this month to showing the love. 

 What we are thinking is that each week for the month of March we will post a friendly little “hookster challenge” ( there really isn’t any prize other than just feeling good about what you’ve created and shared, haha ). You will have the entire week to complete the challenge and post it either to your twitter or instagram, whichever you enjoy more and be sure to use some of the hastags listed below so we can all find your creations. 

Each little challenge will go from Friday to Friday and the new challenge will be posted as the other closes. So keep your eyes peeled! On this blog, Morgan's twitter and my personal twitter as well. 

 There are a few fun hastags to be used as well, and by all means feel free to come up with your own and add them into the mix. A few examples are; #hookstertakeover, #TeamHookTakeover #hookstermadness and as always #teamhook! 

 This week for challenge number one and the kick off to all this fun stuff, we thought it would be fun to do your best lipsync video to YOUR favourite Shawn Hook tune. Be as creative as you like. It can be a full length video, a 15 second short on Instagram, whatever you like. Just have fun with it!!  The deadline for this little challenge will be Friday March 6th! We will be posting challenge two that day as well. We cannot wait to see what you crazy cats come up with and to spread the hookster love!! Have fun!!

Acoustic Wednesday Nights: Paradise Fears- Battle Scars I thought it was appropriate to share this incredible acoustic version of the song Battle Scars by Paradise Fears. In fact, some of you know that I have the lyrics Keep Marching On tattooed on my foot and it is a story that I haven't told to many. For years I knew I wanted a tattoo and I flopped back and forth between ideas. I still remember when I heard this song. It was my birthday of last year. I was turning 21. I was making the (always) difficult transition to living back at home after a year away at school. It is always bittersweet because I get to come home to family and see the ones I love, but I also leave the second family I have grown to love, my school family. Coming home brings some not so happy memories, and quite often reminds me that when I made the decision to move away to school, I made the decision to come home to many changed people and relationships. I dealt with hard times, and many stressful nights wondering if I was in school for the right thing, wondering if I could actually do it. When I heard this song, it clicked. It made me realize that everything I had been stressing about over the past few years was not worth it. In life, everything happens for a reason and when you fall down, stand back up. You're not alone. Keep Marching On. Right around a pretty low point in my university life, a band called Paradise Fears came into it and I connected to their fanbase almost instantly. I fell head over heels with the words that Sam Miller was saying. Through this band, I have started many new relationships in Toronto and coming home for the summer months, is no longer upsetting. I live for my concert adventures with my girls and I am so proud of the guys in paradise fears for doing all they have done this far. They are currently in the Macy's iHeart Radio contest so please go vote for them. Now you have it, the real story behind my tattoo. It means more to me than some of you will ever know.

Acoustic Wednesday Nights: Andrew McMahon- Synesthesia I remember when I found out that a friend of mine actually has synesthesia. I often daydream about the lyrics "I see colours when I hear your voice" and I wonder what colour my voice would be and what it would feel like to be able to experience that sensation. Andrew McMahon has been a huge musical influence to me for as long as I can remember. Sit back, relax and enjoy and check out the music video if you want to smile. until next time,

Music Video Monday 7: Shawn Hook- Million Ways

When I see a music video full of PDA a part of me feels like...

But then I look at the music video and what story it is telling plus the music plus Shawn Hook and I feel like...

This is the most recent single from Shawn Hook and I think living in a society where we are all attached to devices and longing for temporary fame from strangers, we miss out on so many opportunities to do good things. How many times have you passed someone on the sidewalk, seen an article of clothing you like but not compliment them? That compliment could be the one good thing that happens to them. What if you're too busy swiping on Tinder to see that the love of your life just left starbucks.

Put those phones away and fall in love this year.

Acoustic Wednesday Nights: Arkells ft Lights- Book Club

On tonight's acoustic Wednesday night, I introduce two incredible Canadian acts, one being the band Arkells and another being Lights. I enjoy the original version of this song that is on the Arkells' album Michigan Left but when I heard there was a version with lights, I was over the moon. I love it and I hope you do to. Music Video Monday 6: Demi Lovato- Nightingale

This music video makes me feel:

Demi Lovato is such an inspiration to women, young and old. I've looked up to her since she publicly announced her addictions and illnesses. She is positive and a very talented singer/songwriter. I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do.

Artist Spotlight- Teddy Geiger

Teddy Geiger. You hear the name and you are probably thinking, “Isn’t that the guy who wrote that song about cannonballs in the water or something like that?” Teddy Geiger released his first album Underage Thinking in 2006, and then he was in a movie called the Rocker with Rainn Wilson (which is actually one of my favourite movies). Teddy Geiger has since released some songs and is currently working on his next album “The Last Fears”. I saw Teddy Geiger perform back in the summer of 2012 and the middle school girl inside me fell in love again. He is so genuine and friendly. He is also very talented, has great stage presence and interacts with the fans. Keep an eye out for him because he’s going places, I know it.
