Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 5x18 - All Roads Lead...
AoS Episode Showdown -- Providence
This is a fabulous, quiet episode in light of the events of “Turn Turn Turn.” I like that we get to see Ward at his full on nefarious. I love Coulson’s windmill fighting, white whale chasing, stern belief in the cause. And even though his team doubts him, they follow him. And that says everything.
In this episode, 1x18, SHIELD is labeled a terrorist organization. In 4x18, SHIELD is labeled a terrorist organization.
In 1x18, we first meet Colonel Talbot because of Hydra’s emergence. In 3x18, Brigadier General Talbot is trying to contact Coulson to inform him of Hydra’s extermination. In 5x18, Talbot is forced to confront his Hydra brainwashing.
In 1x18, Trip officially joins the team. In 4x18, we meet Antoine Triplett in the Framework.
In 1x18, Skye asks Ward who he’s going to be when she sees him next since she had to wipe his identity. In 3x18, Daisy under sway grows closer to Hive, the being Ward became.
In 1x18, Kaminsky proclaims “Hail Hydra” like a west Texas cheerleader. In 4x18, May says “Hail Hydra” as an affirmative to volunteer to take on the Patriot.
In 1x18, Fitz tells Trip and Simmons that “it’s time like these you stick with the guy you believe in.” In 2x18, Fit’z trust in Coulson is put to the test when he’s informed they’re going to work with Ward. In 3x18, May challenges Coulson and his methods for getting Daisy back. In 4x18, everyone sticks with Mace even as they watch him sacrifice himself.
In 1x18, Garrett mentions meeting Johnny Horton, the guy with lion paws for hands. In 4x18, to make conversation, Coulson chats with a Hydra agent about the guy on Bakshi News who had lion paws for hands.
In 1x18, Fitz tells Jemma that the last thing he wants is for things to change. In 3x18, Fitz broaches the subject of changing his and Jemma’s relationship exponentially. In 5x18, Alex calls to attention the change in FitzSimmons’ relationship, noting their wedding rings.
In 1x18, the team mourns the death of Director Fury. In 4x18, the team mourns the death of Director Mace.
In 1x18, Ward is an undercover SHIELD agent. In 2x18, Fitz is undercover in a suit. In 3x18, FitzSimmons are undercover geneticists. In 4x18, Coulson is an undercover Hydra agent.
In 1x18, Garrett tells Ward that they all have their weaknesses in reference to Skye. In 3x18, Coulson is called out by May because he’s willing to sacrifice Lincoln but not Daisy. In 4x18, Alistair Fitz tries to snuff out any sign of weakness he sees in his son. In 5x18, FitzSimmons refuse to sacrifice each other, even to save to world.
In 1x18, we see the toxic abusive relationship between Ward and Garrett. In 2x18, we see the toxic relationship between Ward and Kara. In 3x18, we see the toxic relationship between Daisy and Hive. In 4x18, we see the toxic abusive relationship between Leopold and his father. In 5x18, we see the toxic relationship between Hale and Ruby.
In 1x18, Skye holds Ward’s face when she sees his cuts and bruises. In 3x18, Hive holds Jemma’s face, pretending to be Will seeking closure. Jemma holds Fitz’s face when they’re kissing. In 5x18, Fitz holds Jemma’s face to check to see if she’s ok after being tortured by Ruby. Ruby holds Alex’s face when she sees his bruises and cuts. In “Inescapable,” FitzSimmons hold each others’ faces when they’re reunited in the Mind Prison.
In 1x18, Garrett and Raina give Ian Quinn the Gravitonium. In 5x18, Ruby hears Ian Quinn in her head when she absorbs eight percent of the Gravitonium.
Not as good as “Turn, Turn, Turn,” but I think that’s the point. Still an exceptional episode.

It just occured to me that Elena kind of had her own “Bahrain” moment in this episode.
She took one life in order to save others and now she has to live with that choice.
Granted, Ruby was a lot less innocent than that inhuman child was, but she was only like that because of Hale and arguably could have been saved. Plus, killing takes a toll on you regardless of who it is you kill. But Elena wasn’t willing to let Ruby live on the off chance that Daisy could get through to her. She knew Daisy wouldn’t kill her so she made a tough call. I think Daisy and the rest of the team should respect that.
Man, if Ruby is tired of people telling her what to do, just wait until she has a scientist and a rich asshole stuck in her head.
What bugs me about Robin’s gift is that if she always predicts the future out of order, what happens if they change the future? Would she keep seeing the wrong future, or would her predictive abilities shift to the new future? They wouldn’t even be able to ask her because of how disconnected she is because of her ability.
All Ruby needs now is a large laser sword and she could be a Sith lord.
I wonder if Talbot’s the reason May raises Robin in the future.

All the foreshadowing results in perhaps too predictable an episode as Ruby forces Fitz/Simmons to repair the chamber while Talbot kind of executives a sleeper agent plan.
