Also STEGGY
WE’RE GOING FULL 1940S WEDDING GUYS AU WHERE EVERYONE LIVES
(i did so much googling for this omg please love me)
where they get married
They either go to the courthouse because they decide they don’t want a bunch of fuss or they get married in Steve’s childhood church in Brooklyn. If they could get into the church because I have been googling and apparently churches were hosting weddings seven days a week in 1946/1947.
when they get married ( ie what time of day, what month and season etc.)
I think they’d want to wait a bit before getting married. They’d want to wait a year or two and actually get to know each other outside of the war front. Also so Peggy could establish some semblance of a career before they got married. But once they were engaged they probably got married right away, pretty much as soon as they could get everyone together in one place.
what traditions they include ( do they get married under a chuppah and crush a glass, garter toss, ‘something borrowed, something blue,’ etc. )
Angie got Peggy to do “something old, something blue” for sure.
what their wedding cake looks like
Anna probably made them a nice homemade cake since sugar rations were lifted.
….who smashes cake into whose face’
I don’t think this was a thing in the 40s? Google has no clue.
who proposed to who first
Peggy at one point was like “I think we should get married” and then Steve did the whole on one knee with a ring thing so kinda both?
who walks down the aisle and who waits at the altar ( or neither )
Steve waits at the altar and Peggy walks herself down (if they had a church wedding).
what their wedding dresses / suits / other look like
FUN FACT there was wedding dress and suits shortages in 1946/1947 because everyone was getting married lol. If they did a church wedding, I think Peggy would go to the effort to track down a white dress for herself and a suit for Steve, but if they just went to the courthouse she probably just wore Steve’s favorite dress on her and he wore her favorite suit on him.
what their wedding colour scheme is and what sort of decor they have
I think they just have flowers everywhere, all over the place, in the “Howard ordered way to many of these” way.
what flowers are in the bouquet ( if applicable. bonus: what do the flowers mean? )
Peggy had a little nosegay of bluebells, which were her “something blue” and mean gratitude, constancy, and everlasting love.
what their vows are ( eg poetry, traditional, improvised etc. )
Traditional, though all mentions of “obey” are removed.
if anyone’s late to the wedding
Nobody is late, but only because they told Howard the wedding started two hours before it actually did.
who’s in the bridal parties / groomsmen / other
Nobody died so Bucky stands up for Steve and Angie stands up for Peggy.
what their bridal party / groomsmen / other are wearing
See the above wedding dress shortage lol, I think Bucky and Angie just wore their Sunday Best. Maybe they got some new gloves and hats.
who gives speeches at the reception ( bonus: what do they say? recount a sweet memory or two between them? tell an embarrassing story? )
Howard tries to give a speech and Peggy makes him sit down. Jarvis does a sweet toast and everyone feels they can’t follow it up. Angie loudly recounts stories about Peggy that could pretty much be a roast, but doesn’t officially stand up and say anything.
who catches the bouquet( s )
Peggy purposefully hands it to Angie so she doesn’t have to take it home.
what their wedding photos are like ( are they sweet, with the couple holding hands or kissing or ~gazing into each others eyes~? are they silly, with a snapshot of the ‘cake-smash’ moment? or are they artistic, with one of them facing the sunset or holding their bouquets? )
Mostly candids, Howard makes the rounds with his camera. Maybe Jarvis snaps a couple nicely posed ones.
what sort of food they have at the reception
Anna makes their favorite foods and some great Hungarian stuff on top of that and Howard supplies top shelf booze.
who cries first during the ceremony
They hold it together pretty well and then right at the end both burst into tears.
how wild their reception gets ( who dances the best, who gets drunk first, etc. )
It stays pretty tame considering Howard’s there lol. They get a little loud and drink and dance but it’s all in good fun. No one gets sloppy.
what their rings are like
Simple gold wedding bands.
what sort of favours they have ( heart shaped sparklers, mini champagne bottles, personalised candy etc. )
Everyone just takes all the leftovers home with them.
where they go for their honeymoon
Somewhere quiet and secluded. Would probably depend on the season where they went, but I could see them going to the beach for a week or something.
something memorable that happens during the party / ceremony ( do they run out of ice and someone goes to get it in full formal wear on foot, does anyone fall asleep in the middle of the party, etc. )
Angie and Michael and Bucky swap embarrassing stories about Peggy and Steve to both of their horror.
who officiates the ceremony
Justice of the peace or a priest.
what song their first dance is to
I think they just put on the radio and it was whatever swinging song was playing.
who gives who away as they walk down the aisle
Peggy gives herself away.
