Join us in celebrating the legacy of actor Chadwick Boseman at an outdoor screening of Get on Up tomorrow, September 15, at 7 pm. Get On Up is a biographical movie about the life and work of musician James Brown, who is portrayed by Boseman.⁠ ⁠ This event is free and takes place outdoors. We’re following procedures and guidelines laid out by the CDC and local health officials, including practicing social distancing for all activities, and masks are required for all adults and children over the age of 2. Seating is first-come, first-serve.⁠

KNOT combines many of the touchstones of Rashaad Newsome’s multidisciplinary practice: spinning decorative jewelry, lavish Gothic architecture, Black ballroom dancing, mathematical knot theories, and a frenetic energy that emerges from the extraordinary dancers and vocalists, as well as the artist’s surrealistic digital collaging techniques. Commissioned for the Brooklyn Museum’s 2014–15 exhibition Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe, the video heralds the legacy and longevity of Vogue Fem dance’s Black, Latinx, queer, and trans originators and innovators.

In honor of J’Ouvert and the West Indian American Day Parade, we present a three-night screening of MELO-X 's JUVÉ NITE (2018, 17 min.), a short film that celebrates the people of the Caribbean diaspora who call Brooklyn home, and portrays the joy, revelry, and unity of the borough's thriving annual carnival traditions. Screenings will take place on the Museum Plaza, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, playing on loop from 7-9pm.
