Zack Snyder's Justice League: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Various Artists

“Hallelujah, hallelujah!..."

One of the strongest elements within Zack Snyder's Justice League was undoubtedly the music score by Tom Holkenborg (also known as Junkie XL). Although I'm a bit disappointed that his original score for the 2017 version of the film wasn't used (fingers crossed for a release someday), what he composed for this four-hour epic was amazing nonetheless. There are plenty of songs within this massive fifty-four track album to match every emotional, action-packed, and foreboding moment in the film: the League has their own triumphant song, there is a fittingly ominous theme for Darkseid himself, and Diana and the amazons have an ancient lamentation musical cue that plays during their own epic moments. It's also great to hear some familiar themes from previous DCEU films such as Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Wonder Woman. Lastly, the featured songs that bookmark the entire album are also so wonderfully done: Allison Crowe's rendition of "Hallelujah" was a wonderful way to end the film (as a tribute to the late Autumn Snyder) and Rose Betts' "Song to the Siren" honestly brings me to tears every time I hear it. Overall, this was an astounding musical score that adds another layer of greatness to an already great film...

New poster for “Army of the Dead”. The Zack Snyder-helmed zombie heist film begins with “a deliciously inspired 15-minute no-holds barred opening-credits sequence” that features Liberace tribute showman David Maiocco counting in a remarkable duet:  

 “Richard Cheese and Allison Crowe covering ‘Viva Las Vegas’ going from comical/parody to straightforward cover to a soulful and melancholic ode to the decay of humanity… good s**t”, says Chicago poet/writer+ Stefano de la Cuesta.

 #ArmyOfTheDead opens globally on Netflix this Friday, May 21. Rated R.

This year’s first major Hollywood release featuring musician Allison Crowe, “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”, is an epic, mythic, adventure delivering hope and inspiration. In the #SnyderCut, we find redemption and salvation in unity. Allison’s elegiac delivery of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” closes the film #ForAutumn. (ZSJL is playing on Crave in Canada, HBO Max in America, and other platforms worldwide.)

 Next up, again from Director Zack Snyder (also in roles as Writer, Producer & Director of Photography), and The Stone Quarry creative team/family is “Army of the Dead”. In select theaters now, (opening globally on Netflix May 21st), this zombie heist film is "hair-raising, heart-stopping and hilarious throughout" says film critic Dana Barbuto – who describes the movie’s apocalyptic opening:

 "Then, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, Snyder crafts a deliciously inspired 15-minute no-holds barred opening-credits sequence to set up the present-day scenario.  It plays out over a Richard Cheese and Alison Crowe cover of ’Viva Las Vegas’ - and it is pure carnage and camp – definitely not for the squeamish. Swarms of zombies done up as sequined showgirls, stiletto-heeled strippers, Elvis impersonators, even a tiger straight out of “Siegfried & Roy,” storm the Strip, devouring anyone in their path. The main characters are introduced, shown in  battle with lots of blood and zombie goo oozing in slow-motion close-up as they blow away the invading undead with saws, rifles and knives to the skull. Ah, what happens in Vegas, slays in Vegas."

 “Man”, notes Allison. “14 year old band and theatre kid me – who rented 5 movies 5 days 5 dollars of horror movies and always felt super weird & sad, would be so stoked if she knew the cool things she’d get to do and see one day. I had no idea. 39 year old me is feeling so grateful.”
