Been finding myself talking a lot more about butch identity on this hell site so I thought I’d share an excellent video on the history of the word butch from a great video series.
““Recovered memory,” is, of course, a central convention of abduction narratives, and Mulder’s flashback contains traditional features of such stories. The series seems to be staking out larger ground, however, implying that Mulder’s vision might be collective rather than personal. As in the first season, alien abduction is linked to government crime, but now the link has become psychological as well as political. What Mulder recovers is both the memory of erasure (Nixon’s) and the erasure of memory (his own). His “undeleted file” of childhood memory stands in contrast to the “deleted file” of official misconduct, but they both tell only one story: disappearance. The erasure of presidential crimes would be followed by the erasure of larger military and corporate crimes from national consciousness during the 1970s and 1980s (the “organized forgetting,” or planned apathy, so painstakingly chronicled by Noam Chomsky). Just what was lost in 1973 is a question that looms over the series, a question that Mulder seems “chosen” to answer by his peculiar attachment to history. The X-Files’ mysterious Deep Throat (a 1990s version of Woodward’s informant) - a player at the highest level of the government, at least until his apparent murder at the end of the first season - confesses in “E.B.E.” to having participated in “some of the most insidious lies and...deeds that no crazed man could imagine.” He was “haunted” by these acts until he found Mulder. “That’s why I come to you,” he says. “To atone for what I’ve done. And maybe sometime, through you, the truth will be known.” In this transference of guilt, Mulder becomes the custodian of America’s secret postwar history. He is now the haunted one, the living “memory bank” of officially denied images (which, come to think of it, may not be a bad way to describe the FBI itself).”

Mommy's Little Boy takes more child drama to Lifetime!
Mommy’s Little Boy takes more child drama to Lifetime!
I just wanted to love snow and talk about snow, and now I’m trapped in a Lifetime movie! [adrotate banner=”7″] It’s Mommy Madness Marathon for Lifetime, with two movies with “Mommy” in the title for lots of Lifetime fun. Besides Mommy’s Little Boy, we also have Double Mommy (hence why they’re not calling it a Double Mommy Weekend!), and both of these films are sequels in spirit to prior Lifetime…
