The next phase of ‘divide and conquer’
We should prepare for the possibility that Trump will dodge “left” as the Democrats move increasingly to the right on international issues (see: Korea). Already there are signs that Trump’s pardon of the unjustly imprisoned Alice Marie Johnson (following Kim Kardashian’s personal appeal) will prompt others to follow suit.
There’s no downside for Trump the demagogue to grant a few “boons” for PR purposes if people come and grovel before him. But there is a great danger for the working class and oppressed if we allow ourselves to be further divided in a scramble for crumbs from the royal table.
To preempt this attack, it’s all the more urgent to build a mass struggle in solidarity with the most oppressed workers, with imprisoned youth and parents and grandparents, with the struggle for Black and Brown Lives against police terrorism, with refugees facing death and deportation and migrant children living in bipartisan ICE cages for the profit of Wall Street.
