Wizards of Wayfinder
WIP PAGE :: CHARACTER BIOS :: WORLD MAP
Magic is an important part of the world of Edhest. Though it tends to be more concentrated in the southern elven kingdoms, some manages to find its way up north. Anyone can be born with the gift of magic, whether you’re a human, or a dwarf. However, only a select few have the power to join the Mages Guild, a massive network of wizards governed by the Mage Council. For a person to become a mage, they must pass a series of rigorous tests.
The Mage Council met in a hidden citadel masked by magic. Every year, the citadel shifts its location. One year, it was hidden beneath the ocean and masked by a forest of kelp. The head wizard, Roule, led the Mage Council for one thousand years until its downfall in the year 2311 SA, the same year King Hadrian was crowned.
When King Hadrian began his rule of terror, however, the Mage Council collapsed. Many placed the blame for King Hadrian’s sudden shift into darkness on the wizards and the shrouded leader Roule, and so wizards were hunted and killed in a wave of unchecked fear.
There were major three wings of the Mage Guild: Paladin, Wayfinder, and Almaje.
Paladin
The paladin is also known as a “warrior mage”. Paladins train in the way of combat magic. Though they have access to a variety of weapons and armor, many choose to wear heavy armor over top their traditional wizard robes and basically serve as a sponge for damage. The sight of an armored paladin holding their ground in the middle of a battle is a awe inspiring sight. They wield more than steel or bow, they also wield the might of magic.
Wayfinder
The Wayfinders were the rarest wizards, and the hardest path for an aspiring mage to follow. Wayfinders, also known as loremasters, study every bit of history recorded in Edhest. They memorize entire volumes and collections of books. They are the most proficient at solving a mystery, or finding lost things.
The ancient Wayfinders built huge golden machines that when presented with a beloved belonging of a person, could give the location of that person no matter where they were in the world. However, the Wayfinder machines were deemed inhumane and an invasion of privacy, so they were all destroyed.
Almaje
The Almaje are the healers. They were well-versed in not only healing magic, but herbs and enchanted stones. Stories of them healing even the gravest illness ripple throughout the world. Some Almaje were said to even be powerful enough to cleanse a whole city of a plague.
The highest order of Almaje are called soulstitchers. They heal illnesses of the mind, and can out back together even the most broken of spirits.
