Is Cameron close with any of the rescued children?
Yes!
Almika is the one Cam seems to have bonded with the most. Her first few months at the school she barely spoke, and Cam could remember the years following his mother’s death where he didn’t speak to anyone. What he’d needed was a friend, he could remember the first words he’d spoken to anyone in years following her death had been to Lucien, and because of that Cam has made a conscious effort to befriend and entertain her.
There has been more than one occasion where Cam has held her when she’s silently, and eventually verbally, requested it. She has fallen asleep on Cam during these times, especially when Cam started to read some of his favorite children's books to her. He also reads to the rest of the kids, but when he noticed Almika seemed to enjoy books being read to her, he’s taken extra time with just the two of them to spend time reading.
Cam also likes to swim, so he’s spent a great deal of time in the water with her as well. Because of this he’s also gotten better at manipulating water with his powers, as he’s gotten plenty of practice trying to change the water and make the experience more fun for her.
In general Cam makes efforts with all the kids, he likes to be a positive presence for them like the rest of the adults around them, but Almika has taken to him, which he’s responded to in kind.
