Hey there Skull-friend! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you!
You know, today I made the big decision to take a very, very (no, really, very very) long break from Instagram and focus my health and energies here on Tumblr and some other smaller art apps, like Artfol, for example.
But back to your question! I've been here since 2015/2016, and it was a very gradual thing, but rewarding. There's no formula that works for everyone, and it's different when we consider other apps, but at least Tumblr has managed to keep this platform artist-friendly in many ways. So I'd suggest that you carry on doing your thing, creating your work at your own pace and enjoying every step of it. You'll grow a following in no time and before you know it, you may even show up on Radar! Good on you for deciding to come back!
Here we can focus on our art and be away for some days and even weeks without the feeling we're being punished by some evil algorithm if we don't post enough, not to mention that the blogging format is infinitely better!
So...I'm using the answer to your question to also let my Tumblr friends know that from now on I'll be dedicating most of my time to you all, cultivating this little community I've been able to create during the past eight years. I'm honestly so tired of Instagram and it's starting to affect my productivity. I don't want to end up like that cute skeleton! Imagine being this burned out even though we're doing what we love! No thanks. So Tumblr, here we go! 💖
