OMG this is so much fun! Tip for dealing with scam artists on the phone!
I bet you have all gotten that call from some guy with a number you don’t recognize. He – always a he- has a thick accent that sounds Pakistani but could be anything. This man is always from some official Windows site or something to do with Microsoft or a computer and they have information to help you.
Well, I have a fail-safe plan on how to deal with this and you have so much fun doing it you almost – notice the word almost- look forward to the next call. Although, I hae never gotten another call after this trick.
Last summer this happened to me all the time on my cell phone. Hanging up did nothing they would just call back.
Sorry, right facial expression but wrong time of year although it did just happen again today and it was my first reaction. So I thought and thought and thought on how best to deal with this.
So one day I told him the FBI was monitoring my line. I told him I was with the police he started to laugh and said are you with the police and I said “ you have no idea who I am and we are monitoring this line” . He hung up so fast it wasn’t funny and I called back his number and it was – go figure- disconnected.
Well today I got a call on my landline. He started to say he was with the Official Windows ….- and I cut him off there and said, in a very relaxed voice as if he just told me it was raining out, “Oh, I know, we get these calls all the time. This line is monitored by the FBI,maybe you should hang up now.” He hung up before I could. It was fun. I bet I don’t get any calls again at least not for a long time. And now I feel really good about myself and will get work done today! I am hopeful that I scared him and I am so thankful that I beat that little jerk. Maybe he will think twice about calling an almost senior citizen and trying to scam them. I may not know much about technology but I do know he was not my friend.
