Papa George

So, first off this story calls for a little backstory... One of our theatre students named George is really tall so last year we compared him to a ladder. The name kinda stuck and so whenever we see a ladder we call it George. We also managed to turn George into a unit of measurement (There isn’t much more then that.) We have two ladders that can reach up to our top part of our stage area to the electrics. We called the 12ft ladder George Jr. and the taller 16ft ladder was named Papa George or Mega George and so on. Sadly Papa George was way too big to keep in the shop next to the stage so instead it was moved to the shed outside on campus. Today for the show we brought Papa George back in because we need to focus the electrics at the full height of 17ft. So it was just me up all the way on the top and I was minding my own stuff and then some actor decided that it would be funny to kick the ladder’s support... little did they know I was up there. I also had my wrench sitting on the top step of the ladder and when they kicked the support it caused the ladder to shake and my wrench fell inches from the actor. She freaked out and quickly walked off stage. I was however left with a very unsteady ladder that was on the verge of tipping so somewhere in my mind I decided the best thing to do would be to pull on the electric’s bar, I missed and instead grabbed a Fresnel that had been on for about half and hour already so it was pretty decently hot. I finally got a hold of the bar and stabilized the ladder. I got down as fast as I could and then left, if only that was the most I had to do that night for our show on Thursday! I already knew it was gonna be a long night...
